Video driver Ethernet conflict on MK 808B plus Finless 1.1 ?

I am trying to use the Tronsmart USB Ethernet adapter with MK808B Plus running Finless 1.1 ROM. It runs the XBMC release which comes with Finless 1.1 ROM, well when using Wifi. In a quest for better network connectivity when I switch to the Ethernet USB adapter, everything falls apart.
When starting a .h264 video which played earlier on Wifi, audio starts instantaneously, but there is no video for 10-20 seconds. Sometimes the video never starts. And all the inputs (keyboard, mouse, iOS remote) are frozen while that video is (not) playing. It looks suspiciously like a video driver issue described on https://www.reddit.com/r/xbmc/commen...udio_continues

I understand the issue described there relates to an Intel driver, but wondering if there might be some conflict happening here with the Ethernet and video driver. I am an Android newbie, but a Linux expert and would appreciate any pointers on how to diagnose the issue here. I have ssh installed so I can ssh into the MK808B plus. But not able to figure out where the log files might be. Also how do I get a root access in the shell ? There is a su app installed but not sure how to get that to give root access to the shell.

I am running the exact same hardware with Bob's 1.1 and not seeing any problems with XBMC/Kodi. The device is just 1GB, so I keep an eye on what is running with Kodi. Before Bob's 1.1, my Tronsmart USB Ethernet adapter did not work at all on my MK808B+. Maybe Bob can comment on this issue.

cjeman, Thanks for your response. Are you running Kodi or the older version of XBMC which was included with Bob 1.1 ?
My CPU utilization, frames skipped, frames dropped all increase significantly when switching to Ethernet rather than Wifi
I don't have anything else running, I've even disabled RSS.
