Arnova 10 G2 - Does anybody know what is wrong with this? (image provided)

    Hi,
I've tried 3 separate firmware versions plus the Arnovatech original via RocketChip batch tool and RK29Update. The firmware uploads, verifies as expected and the screen displays the firmware update graphic with status text appearing where the corruption lines are normally displayed (as there are no corruption lines on firmware update I don't think that there is a screen issue). When the tablet reboots it then displays the attached image and goes no further. Does anybody have a clue to what's going on or is this tablet junked?

I've tried the EraselDB button before trying the following update:

Also used EraseLDB then swapped over to RocketChip batch tool in order to recover to the factory original firmware from the Arnovatech support site. No luck whatsoever. The firmware procedure works without fault (I've done quite a few now), but then fails on boot (as pictured). It's a 4MB tablet that's out of warranty unfortunately!

    Cheers,
    Rob

On the right panel when you eraseIDB make sure it goes through the full 2048 blocks. I had a friend with similar and it was not erasing all the IDB. He had to return the tablet.

Also make sure tou check the box for the loader. You need loader 2.08.

Oh and by the way, to go back to stock, in the RKBatch tool do not use upgrade!!!! You must use restore so it erases everything.

Thanks very much for responding. It is completing all the format. Do you know if there should be an offset value for the loader?

      Cheers,

        No, loader has no offset.
Do not mess with the other offsets. They are set to match the parameter file automatically.

So the tablet wont boot even with stock ROM?

Also are you sure you have a 10 G2? It maybe a 10b G2 capacitive?

              One final thought....
              1) Is it possible a virus or something is corrupting the files when you unzip the package or it messes with update.img? img in windows is a known file type and viruses love to mess with them.

              2) Is it possible something is wrong with your PC and your usb port is messing up? I realize the flash check is passing but that may not mean anything. We have seen people have issues flashing through USB hubs, etc and got it sorted when they tried a different PC.

Have you even been able to flash this tablet from stock when you got it? e.g. the tablet worked and when you flashed it then it started doing this? Or have you flashed it before and it worked?

Just trying to think of possible reasons.

Thanks for all your help on this! This tablet did not work when I bought it (from auction). The box says Arnova 10 G2 4MB with PN109784. I've flashed about 15 bricked Arnovas on this PC (I refurbish them / fix power supply jack and sell them on) without issue. I normally reflash to the standard firmware from Arnovatech support website but this didn't work this time. I've tried 3 other non-standard ones too. When I use the standard firmware via the Rockchip batch tool the screen freezes with corruption lines and remains static (as the original link). When I use one of the non standard firmwares (ensuring EraseLDB goes through all blocks and with loader ticked) I still get the normal firmware refresh screen and all the expected status updates, it completes as expected, gives the reboot warning, then reboots. It briefly displays the Arnova logo and then falls down with a set of moving corruption lines (see link). I find it hard to believe that this is a hardware fault when it completes the reflash as expected and the screen displays the reflash graphics and status without issue?

Looks like I'll have to sell it as spares or repair!!

Yes I think the GPU is hosed! The boot up uses standard TTY. However when the kernel kicks in after initial boot and switches on the GPU to handle the full UI and graphics, that seems broke. So my bet is this unit has a bad GPU and it is a hardware fault.
