How To Password (/PIN) protect / screen lock Android TV Box?

Welcome FreakTab. I've been reading you for a while and you influenced me with choosing my box. Now the time has come to register and write something

I have a Tronsmart R28 Meta and I was wondering if there's any way to password (/PIN) protect / lock the screen, so it's not easily accessible to e.g. guests or children.
I haven't noticed any screen lock options in the Settings (probably removed) as they usually are on tablets or phones. Most probably this could be achieved easily by a customized ROM, but maybe there's an easy way to do it using a dedicated app?

Any tips are appreciated. If there's anything on this forum already solving my request, please point me to it (I haven't found it myself).

Calling all Android TV BOX users: Anybody locking their devices?

Any questions - let me kow.

    Settings→under network→click..more→VPN
    Now enter password..

Now your device is lockscreen protected..
Note.. if you have kids there is a app.. to "password protect apps" (if you just wish protect some apps or "settings")
Note2.. on f-droid you can get a app to enhance the android lockscreen.. 10 wrong passw..shutsdown unit (wrong pin shutdown)
    Note3..on g-market..are many lockscreen apps..
Note4.. on fdroid..there is a nice tool named secdroid..

    Goodluck

Thank you very much for all the info.
I followed the VPN advice, got the dialog you mentioned, then a menu allowing me to choose the screen lock method (like on phones). I chose PIN and put there some magic digits, but I can't find a way to actually lock the device. I've downloaded "Screen Off and Lock" app from Google Play, but locking with it only darkens the screen and any button press or mouse move brings back the desktop. Rebooting the device didn't bring a PIN dialog neither.

Now when I enter VPN option in device settings it doesn't ask me to protect the screen nor gives me the option to choose the locking method, so certainly something got set up, just not fully there yet I could try and set password instead of PIN, but have no idea how to reach this menu again now nor actually lock the screen (except of trying to find a working app on my own).

I haven't heard of F-droid before, have to do some more research about it. Quick googling shows it's an independent app store. Interesting...

Would you be so kind and provide some more names or even links for the apps that do PIN/password protect apps or screen? I'll try to check out SecDroid in the meantime.
