    Questions about the MK808

    Hi there,

As you can see by my post count I'm new here and, even though it's
been ordered some time already, I haven't received my MK808 yet.

I have some experience customising / modding android (phones / tablets) devices, but
I'm in no way an expert. Currently these are the android devices I own: Samsung Galaxy
S3 GT-i9305, HTC Sensation Z710e, Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-s5660 and the MK808 (that
    is yet to arrive).

I usually read a lot, might be enough or not, before I decide to buy and customise a device. That
said, I belive this is a good comunity, and as such I'm here to ask when I need and help when I can.

For now I have a "few" questions I would like to ask:

    - This is the MK808 I bought: http://www.****.com/itm/230973772200?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1439.l2649
I think it was very cheap so I'm kinda expecting it to be a fake / clone but, from what I could read here on the forum there are only clones of the MK808B so, let me know what you think. Don't know if the RC11 that's on the photo comes with it, but I don't think so. I honestly don't know because the seller still hasen't answered.

    - I also bought an US to EU AC plug with a power switch, since there's no way to power on the device without connecting the power plug to the mini usb power supply, at least this way I won't be accidentaly be turning it on unless I really want to use it. Is there a better way to do this? As for turning it off, I already know that there are a huge number of apps that can do that for me. http://lightake.com/detail.do/sku.Compact_UK_to_US_EU_UK_Travel_AC_Adapter_with_ Power_Switch_-36236 The plug I got is very similar to this one but with EU plug.

    - I decided to buy the MK808 to replace the WD HD TV I currently use as a tv media player, that has two 2tb Verbatim 3.5" hdd (a 2.0 and a 3.0 usb) connected and filled with mkv hd movies, because the MK808 has hub support and I like the idea of having android on a tv. I don't know if any powered hub is ok...? I have one like this: http://www.****.com/itm/Perfect-7-Po...item43badd676c, powered by a 5V 1amp transformer, is this enough? Or should I cut the red wire that goes from the hub to the MK808 usb host (to prevent overpowering the MK808) and use a 5v 2amp transformer instead? I also have a non powered hub but, I know that the MK808 has some power isues, so I want to make sure I choose the right devices I'll plug on it, to avoid such problems.

    - I'm thinking about flashing the latest Finless rom (thanks Bob ) for this device, I belive it to be 1.7c, although I've read something about a 2.0 beta. Wich one do you advice and why?

    - So far, I belive there's no 5.1 sound support on the MK808. What happens if I try to play a movie that has 5.1 sound? It won't play any sound at all or will it be downsampled to 2 channels? I intend to use MX Player Pro.

    - Do you advice to replace the hdmi cable that comes with the device for a better quality one? If yes, will it affect the picture quality if the cable is longer (let's say 1.5 meter) than the short one that originaly comes with the device? Can I also use a male to HDMI male Connector?

    - From what I could read, most MK808 users have chosen to use the logitech k400 wireless keyboard with touchpad mouse. Because the p+p expenses to my country made the k400 more expensive, I bought the k700 instead. Was this a wise decision, is the k700 as good as the k400 or is it less compatible with android apps? Does the MK808 support more than one 2.4ghz devices (I was thinking about the k700 and an indeppendant wireless mouse) working at the same time? K700: http://www.****.com/itm/350662061321...84.m1439.l2649 Wireless mouse: http://www.****.com/itm/190690598103...84.m1439.l2649

    - I will be using my home wi-fi to connect the MK808 to the internet, the router will be on the same room as the MK808, will I still need to fix the internal wi-fi antenna?

    - Since I'm going to plug so many usb devices to the MK808, do you advice the use of any cooling vent or heatsink? If so please let me know what I should use that won't be noisy, the best way to power it and where to put it?

    - Is there a way to connect bluethoot devices (ps3 sixaxis comes to mind) to the MK808 using Fineless CFW rom, or only the MK808b can do that?

This is already a very long post, so it will be all for now. Thanks to
all that had the patience to read it and can help with some answers.

    Thanks everyone

PS: Sorry if my english isen't very good

There are mk808 clones, you do not want one of these.

Buy a 2v USB Charger. The one supplied is poor and can cause problems.

1amp for a hub is fine for 2 USB devices, 2amp will be needed for 4. You will have trouble with 3.5inch hard drives, the mk808 is extremely fussy, you will need a very good quality hub to get the mk808 to see those.

Use 1.7c, the beta is not recommended.

    Downsampled.

If you need it longer then yes, no.

    Probably fine.

Unknown until you get the mk808, some are fine, some are not.

    No.

USB Bluetooth support isn't great for mk808. Finding one that also supports the app, and the PS3 controller will be difficult without research. If you wanted to use a wireless PS3 controller, you should of got an mk808b. Droidmote has support for PS3 controllers via phone which may or may not work.

Thank you very much for all the answers ididmytime.

      - How do I identify a fake MK808, because all I found about this matter was regarding the MK808b?

      - Can you give me an example or two of a good 5v 2amp charger for the MK808 and
a powered usb hub that has at least 6 usb ports and is compatible with 3.5" hdd's?

      - Will I need a 5v 3amp charger for the hub if I intend to use 6 usb devices on it?

Once again, thank you for your great help, cheers

You will have to open it and check inside to see if its genuine and compare to pictures of the original mk808. The clone versions do not support any custom roms or kernels, so if you don't check before flashing you could be in big trouble.

It's advised that you will need 500ma per usb, so ideally if you wanted to run 6 devices all at the same time you would require 3amps. Any self powered d-link/belkin usb hub should be good enough, you should check the amps before buying.

I have heard nothing but good things about this one, although it is only 5 ports (2 of them I believe are just for power without data): http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DUB-H.../dp/B0002AFZVM

I'll make sure I open it to check if it's a fake or not, before I flash any rom
on it, and in case it's a fake I guess there won't be any rom flashing at all...

Any of this two will be ok I guess:

          Belkin 7 usb ports, 6v 4amp charger
          http://www.****.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Be...item1e79fe291f

D-Link 7 usb ports (2 ports for power just like you said), 5v 3amp charger
          http://www.****.co.uk/itm/D-Link-DUB...item3a701a7e82

They're about the same price, but the Belkin has more ports available, so I guess I'll get that one.

          Many thanks

I ended up buying the D-Link DUB-H7, it does have 7 usb ports, 5 ports with 0.5amps and 2 with 1.2amps (I believe these last two are only intended for fast charging), the power port and the type B usb are in the back. This seems to be a very powerful usb hub, do you think I should cut the red wire that's inside the type B usb cable, and goes from the hub to the MK808 usb host, to avoid burning or overpowering the MK808? I'm going to laugh my ass off if this thing is compatible with the WD HD TV...

There was a problem with the MK808 order and I bought an MK808B istead. I already
opened it and I think it's an original but I'm not sure, so I took some photos:

I also have no ideia what custom firmware it comes with, it's rooted, has shutdown and hide status bar buttons, the CPU seems to be set for 1600mhz and 1080p resolution is available on screen settings, but I'm not sure about this last two, because on CpuStats cpu frequency is allways on 1008mhz and, on Hardware Info the says the display resolution is 1280x672:

The only bad things I can say about the device so far, is regarding the wi-fi reception, the wi-fi router is about 2/3 meters and the reception is allways 1 bar from full and says 50%. I also nottice it takes a long time to load the video file list (from a 2tb 3.5" hdd) on MX Player Pro, since I plugged it directly to the MK808B (the d-link hub hasen't arrived yet), might that be the problem? The 2tb is self powered.

How can I increase the cpu speed to 1600mhz, without flashing a different rom? Also, is
there a way to easily fix the wi-fi reception problem, cause I'm not very goo with soldering...

              Many thanks

Wich is the best / fastest movie player for the MK808B?

I use MX Player Pro but, with a d-link self powered hub and 2 2tb 3.5" hdd,
it becomes quite slow when navigating the movie list, playing is fine though.

What's weird is that if I use File Expert to navigate the hdd's folders / movie
files and MX Player Pro only to play the files, it's really fast. Any sugestions?

Edit: Does it makes any difference if I plug the HUB to the OTG port instead of
the USB port, is one supposed to be faster than the other or they're the same?

                      Re: Questions about the MK808

The same speed, and in otg port some devices cannot work.
The best player for me is the stock one, but with certain movies it didn't work, in those situations I use mxplayer.

Is there a way to change the way the available media is displayed on the stock player?
I preffer it to be on a list than on a grid... By the way, is this the stock player you have?

No there is now way to do what you want. The RkVideo Player is only a App with no additional Features.
Try MX Player from Playstore, or Install XMBC.
