    Best player w/AV 480i Out?

Can anyone recommend a player with a usable 480i composition output? My main TV is still SD, but I'd like the most capable player so that it will be reasonable when I eventually upgrade. I'd prefer an Intel based box for maximum OS flexibility, but I haven't met such a beast with an AV out in today's day and age. I primarily just want to steam video from a few web sites in a browser, but I think I'd like to run an occasional Android video app too. This will mostly be used for streaming kids and family videos. Any suggestions except buy a new TV would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

OK, strike best and replace it with working. Really, no one has ANY suggestions?

Give it a little time. Most people are not using the A/V, so there may not be that many opinions.

I have the Ugoos UT3, once finding the correct cable, I tried its A/V out. It works, but keep in mind that, just like a PC displayed through an old type TV(CRT), things like text can be very hard to read. There is little a device maker or coder can do to improve the situation. Some CRT TVs were 'HD", if this is your case, then your results may be better. Settings can offer some improvement, like larger text, fonts, etc.
I hope you get some more opinions.
      Good Luck.

ccbrianf: I have an MXIII M82 which I use on a multisystem analog CRT TV. The 480 CVBS signal appears to work just as well as the 576 CVBS signal. I will try to check whether the TV is switching to 3.58 (US) or 4.43 NTSC.

I also have an MX TV box which does not generate a very good picture on the same TV (distortion in left top third of screen). My Roku HD only works when the TV is set to 3.58 NTSC. The picture is black and white on both 4.43 NTSC and PAL settings.

There are a number of cheap PAL to NTSC or HDMI to PAL/NTSC converter boxes available on Aliexpress which you might be able to connect to any type of TV box etc. I am not sure how well the HDMI converter will deal with 16:9 to 4:3. If you look around a bit I am sure that you can find something even cheaper.

From what I've read, those converter boxes are about as hit and miss as the AV outputs themselves with respect to picture quality, especially the cheaper they are. That's why I'm looking for someone to confirm a solution they are happy with using a US TV. I also prefer fewer working parts if possible for lesser expense.

Thanks for the help @Luker, and please let me know if you find out if your MXIII M82 is actually doing US NTSC. Thanks.

ccbrianf: I have just tested the 480CVBS NTSC setting on my MXIII M82. This appears to work just as well as the 576CVBS PAL setting with the TV switched to NTSC 3.58 (USA), The picture switches to black and white on the NTSC 4.43, PAL or SECAM settings. This is exactly the same as my Roku HD 2500X. I have an old version of the MXIII M82 with the Realtek RTD8188 chipset running 108k4 firmware. If you can't get the NTSC signal to work on a more recent device such as the MXIII-G running Lollipop 106L1 you could try to change the firmware to Kitkat 316k4 or possibly 115k4 to see if that helps. I am not sure whether the MXIII will work on all analog NTSC TVs but it does work very well on mine. There is also some picture distortion at the top of my TV screen with my Realtek RTD1185 Egreat R6A-II when I try to access the web browser.

The analog TV cable (3.5mm earphone type connector to 3 RCA connectors) was included with the MXIII - (tip - red, 1st ring - white, 2nd ring - yellow, 3rd ring - ground).

Alternatively if you have a Roku I can send you some ideas on how to cast downloaded content, live TV streams or stream from Kodi etc. from an android phone or tablet. I have watched more than 90 downloaded episodes of a popular show on my Roku HD over the last two weeks or so with only a single interruption. The picture quality is very good from both devices - the colour might be slightly brighter on the MXIII. I think the picture quality might even be better on the analog TV when playing 480p content than on my Samsung HDTV.
