Configure MK802IIIS to use external USB WIFI adapter??

    Hi all,

Been looking in to how i can configure my MK802IIIS to use an external WIFI adapter.... as the title may have suggested, haha! Looks as though some USB adapters just work whereas some need to either have the kernel recompiled or have a module loaded.

I just bought a cheap adapter with the MediaTek/Ralink RT5372 Chipset, as it did say it was compatible with Android, But when connected it doesn't appear to work.

While i have dabbled in compiling linux, mainly firmware for my routers, and the process looks much the same, the micro USB port on my unit has snapped off so i couldn't flash a new kernel if i made one.

My only hope is that its possible to add a module of some sort and edit some config files.

I'm running on Neomode's CR2.0 for the 802IIIS and i found the linux drivers on the Mediatek website but i'm not sure how to proceed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

Insmod the ko driver file in system\lib with terminal emulator. That's all I know. Tried myself with one and never got past that. With your background you should know what to do with that.

      Thanks BudgetGeek,

I was hoping it'd be that simple. I should have explained in a little more detail. I don't currently have the ko module. The drivers I downloaded look like the source and most likely needs to be compiled in Linux. I'm OK with that, but does anyone know if this will produce a ko module I can then insmod? Also, will the init.d file.need editing?

Better yet, does anyone else have the ko module for the RT5372 WiFi chipset?

      Best regards

You might also try the same procedure with a similar ralink module.

          Thanks BG,

I think i'm going to do some more research on the subject before i ask any more potentially stupid questions.

You have not asked a stupid question, there are huge threads on the topic that still leave the answer in doubt. Maybe you can learn and help them.

And believe me, if you can get this far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef...ding-t3166315/

You can probably figure it out.

                Hahaha, thanks bud.

Having a break from it today. I'll come back to it all tomorrow with a fresh mind, i hope, and look at it from a new persepective.

I hope i am in a position to help others in the future, its the least i can do for all the community has done for me.

Will come back with an update with progression, or lack of....
