Lets make a PETITION for the RK3188 Devices source code
Hi. Im watchin the posts from Bob and other rom developers and they say that they need the source code for RK3188 devices so they can make a better OS for us end users of the android mini pc`s, and rockchip is not givin it. So what do you think: we make a petition to them with this post for releasing the source code. So just give a thumb up or +1 to sign yourself, then maybe someone at geekbuying can present it to the factories and maybe they will take it into consideration. Lets make 1 thousand or 10 thousand or more so this can happen and Bob and other rom developers can continue with their great work.FIRMWARE & HARDWARE COMPATIBILITY LIST FOR ANDROID TV STICKS

I think that a well redacted model mail can make them think about release them. Maybe someone with a good english and knowledge about apache and gpl licenses can made a open letter to them, we can sign it and send it to rockchip.
Of course if geekbuying and some more sellers can join or give some pressure to the rockchip manufacturers it will help us a lot.
I am sure that geekbuying and other sellers want the sources open cause it helps to resolve some bugs and improve the product, adding a extra value to it.REMEMBER, YOUR FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.My devices:

Freaktab user HaroldG helped us last year get Arnova to release sources. He is a lawyer and wrote a letter to Arnova which caused them to release sources.
I will PM him and see if he is willing again.

Rikomagic may release kernel source

Take a look at this thread on Rikomagic's forum.
Andy Kirby from Rikomagic has indicated he will try to get the kernel source released for the MK802 IV, an RK3188 based device.
This is significant as Andy and Rikomagic actually released the kernel source for the MK802 III previously.
Omegamoon made the request and several other of us devs have put our 2 cents worth in as well. I believe this has a decent chance of bearing fruit as Rikomagic and Andy Kirby have come through in the past.
We are all crossing our fingers on this one.

And thanks a lot Bob, waiting the answer. Rockchip must prepare their mail servers to a very great petition.REMEMBER, YOUR FEEDBACK IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US.My devices:

Perhaps supporting their product would be wise.

What we understand is Rockchip if forcing companies to sign a non-disclosure stating they cannot release sources.
However you do have a point. We could just go to a manufacturer and get them to release sources which in turn would be what we need at least for that specific company. It would be best to get Rockchip to release "general" sources but we will take any we can get!

Curious. I didn't think chip manufacturers could do that. If they're coding Android for their chips, they have to comply with the GPL. Otherwise, Qualcomm could pretty much prevent any code from being released on any phone running with their chips, and likewise Tegra. But Asus is particularly good about releasing code.
OK, just did a little, *very* little homework. I'm wondering whether Fuzhou Rockchip is licensing ARM architecture for its chips, and the license may include a non-disclosure agreement which prohibits code release.
If what we're talking about is the machine-level code, we'll probably never get that; if we're talking about the OS which Fuzhou layers atop the ARM code, that's another matter, and would be subject to the GPL.Asus Transformer TF300T - ROOTED, with TWRP recovery and stock Jellybean

Yes we understand that some modules like wifi will be proprietary. What we are looking for a kernel sources which is under GPL. But we understand some parts of those source maybe proprietary and thus not supplied.
We got some leaked 3066 3.0.8+ kernel sources from the rikomagic group. But what we are not getting is sources for 3066 3.0.36+ (JellyBean 4.2.2) nor are they releasing RK3188 kernel sources.
Rockchip has yet to release any sources. So far all we have gotten was leaked stuff from other companies that got the Rockchip SDK.
The kernel is GPL and thus must be released!
The OS (Google) is Apache licensed but we can get by without that as Google releases this code and we can deal with it.
