New MXQ Owner after a bit of advice / guidance

    Hi guys.

    Bought one of these
    http://www.****.co.uk/itm/391019905956

I've been looking around the forum all day but I'm still a bit confused as to which firmware / rom I can use on it.

Any help would be really appreciated as the box is a bit laggy and I would like to improve it.

    Thanks.

First, you need to know what PCB board version you have, and what WiFi module model.
Then you will find a proper firmware for your box.
But, as mike77 said - it's pretty shitty

I thought the MXQ was pretty popular. Or is it only the MXQ with the red stripe?

I have one and I can assure you it's a crappy device.

Sometime switches on with the remote, sometimes does not.
Sometimes the av port works, sometimes does not.
Sometimes have to plug/unplug several times before the box boots through the MBX logo. Often first boot gets stuck on the MBX logo.
Kodi 15.x.x has problems playing/streaming vids, gets stuck and cannot resume play after buffer, zoom picture but I think solved now, cannot handle smoothly panning views in LQ video streaming. I'm not a sophisticated user but many other minor irritations which normally should be working.

Putting a different firmware on these devices I read also breaks things such as LAN, wifi or remote control function or usb (check mediaman forum)

And some have a square board and some have a board with a cut out inside (I found that the board with the cut outs are better than the square board). Before I bought mine, I had to try and returned to the store 5 different ones before I found one that worked at a basic level.

Who knows who made the boards inside and who provides the firmware, they all seem to be different and it's near impossible to get the firmware from the factory (whichever factory made the device is also the million dollar question as the sellers, including the store where I bought my device, also feign ignorance or are just too stupid to know or have an interest in the product they are selling)

I've been trying to get the firmware for my device from my seller who sell a lot of these devices but after 3 weeks without result.

I would avoid this device and go with one of the branded names tronsmart, beelink or minix. At least they have web sites and some firmware downloads on their products and seem well represented/discussed in these and other forums.

I really don't understand the high ratings these boxes have on amazon, gearbest etc......

The Chinese companies sure have got a lot of buyers in the world to part with their cash.
