Did this remote come with your budget box and you hate it?....

If yes and your chief complaint is, "one minute it works and another it does not". I may have a solution and it does not require your gun or hammer. According to the camera on my phone, sometimes there is no output from the IR LED when buttons are pressed. In my case, the cause was intermittent battery contact, effectively turning the remote on and off. I rectified this by making sure to stretch both positive contacts(spring terminal) over the case when reassembling the remote. I suppose one could also widen the area where the battery's positive contact "pokes" thru the gap in the case. Evidently it is not quite wide enough to allow some batteries to make reliable contact with the positive terminal. See below. Give it a try, though it does nothing for the remote's ridiculously narrow beam pattern, as long as she's aimed right, she works every time. Good luck. CAUTION BE CAREFUL IF YOU DO THIS, IT DEFEATS THE CASE'S FEATURE THAT KEEPS AN INCORRECTLY INSERTED BATTERY FROM BEING IN-CIRCUIT WHILE AT REVERSE POLARITY. Just pay close attention when changing batteries.

I ran into this problem about a year ago. I split the case and took the case apart to do my surgery and I was able to make the battery contact more reliable.

WARNING - - - However, when I reassembled the case one of the keys on the rubberized keyboard managed to hang up and not fully extend to its proper position and I didn't realize it. Setting the remote aside I proceeded to operate the HDTV with OTA channels and found the TV remote getting really odd results. I fiddled with the TV remote for quite some time and came to the (erroneous) conclusion that my HDTV had developed some sort of failure whereby the remote control was irretrievably broken.

Well, I did want some sort of excuse to get an even bigger big-screen TV - and here it was! I bought a new, bigger HDTV, set it up - - - and found the new TV had the very same remote control problems as my old one!!!

In troubleshooting you must ask the question, "What's different? What changed?" Hmmmmm. The only thing different was the cheapy remote I had recently repaired. I took out the batteries in the cheapy remote and found BOTH TVs worked perfectly! I examined closely the cheapy remote and discovered that one of the keyboard keys was stuck slightly below its fully extended position - enough so to cause a continuous transmission of that key-press. It actually interfered with all my infrared remotes. Not enough to change functions on an unassigned device but enough to cause confusion with a competing device. What a lesson!

Unfortunately, now I could not justify the cost of a new TV so it had to go back.

Dang it!. I was going to ask you for that old TV.
Seriously though, glad you discovered the culprit. Anyone who troubleshoots makes this kind of error. I diagnosed an old car I used to have, as having a bad alternator. After replacing the alternator, the problem persisted. After spending the $60 bucks for the non-returnable alternator, I discovered a blown fusible link. Cost of the fusible link? About $4. Cost of my damaged pride? About two six-packs. But that's not as depressing as having to return your new screen. My sympathies sir.

This forum seems lackluster in participation compared to others I have been on in recent years. Something in the (Android) water I think. But Freaktab is the best TV box forum available. And you, RISCy Dude, are perhaps the one bright light here that makes this forum worthwhile - for me. You actually make conversation! Thanks for the reply. Appreciated!

Ahh! You're making me blush. I appreciate your kind words, but there's a lot of good people here. This forum like many has it's ebbs and flows.
As for me, I like to converse(profusely, some would say). I'm lucky they don't charge by the character. Lucky for us all though, some prefer debugging to talking. If everyone was like me, nothing would get done here.
          Again, thanks for the compliment.
          Cheers!

make sense. I hate it a lot, sometimes I will be irritated by the remote, last month I bought a budget air mouse, but it worth more than it cost me.
