Issues connecting to playstore

I talked my friend into buying a MK808 non bluetooth from geek buying. It arrived in the mail yesterday. It has android 4.2.2 on it. When I try to connect to the playstore I get a message that says:
(Can't establish a reliable connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your android device may not be provisioned for data services.)

Flash a better ROM. BUT if you don't want to go there yet then do this.

1) Go into settings and backup / reset.
2) Do a factory reset and erase everything
3) On next boot BEFORE you do anything, go into settings and set your time zone! This is key!
4) Connect to your wifi network.
5) BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, go back into settings and check the date and time. If you did not get the proper date and time from your router, etc... then that is the problem. Manually set the date and time then.
6) Now login to Google. It should work.

If on #5 when you connected to wifi and it did not set the time, you have some issues with the router or network config. GO FIX THAT. If you do not fix that then every time you reboot, the date will be 1970 and Google will not work.
