For those who have received their MK802-IV, how do you like it?

I've been seeing a lot of complaints on the Rikomagic forum (surprise surprise). I got mine yesterday, I installed all my apps from my MK802-IIIs no problem and everything is running just as well as on the IIIs. Video seems to be a little clearer. I have a Dlink DIR-505L wifi range extender plugged into the same outlet as my TV and MK802 and everything works great thus far. I'm hesitant to move to 4.2 until the netflix issue gets sorted out. I have 4.2 on my two android phones and my nexus 7 and I love it, but I'm in no hurry to switch on a device which is mainly for watching netfix/movies. I can't wait to see some custom firmware on here. I always enjoy and appreciate everyone's hard work on here.

I'm curious to see what others think of their IV

Update: Video is a little choppy on netflix. Haven't tried other video yet.

I wouldn't go for 4.2.2 just yet (it is bummer)...

Mk802 IV brings good scores from benchmarks, Wifi (I don't know what is happening... Just like the device reconsidered to work decently hahah!) I think it won't be bad device with new ROM.

Clocks set up to 1.8 GHz, DOES NOT OVERHEAT AT ALL! I'm just waiting for custom rom to make this device useable. (HD video on fullscreen is stuttering a bit...)

Conclusion: Right now you won't get working everything well, but it is stable at least. I am sure these imperfections can be fixed. Wifi might need some hw modifications.

Plex doesn't work yet, not even after the 4.2 update.

Huge bummer considering it was my main incentive for buying it. Hopefully some clever people will be able to make a proper ROM to utilize the HW better.

Just ordered one of these (MK802IV), that will be arriving next week.

I had a MK808B (which is now dead) that had lots of issues: power supply,
wifi, performance, stability, heat / temperature, the list goes on...

I have a D-Link DUB-H7 self powered hub with 2 2TB 3.5", also self powered, external HDD's filled with MKV / MP4 / AVI HD movies and a Logitech K700 Wireless keyboard plugged in, that I used on the MK808B. But it had problems browsing / exploring / reproducing the contents of the HDD's, I used MX Player as default movie / video player and File Expert (faster than using the mx player list) to chose the files from the HDD's I wanted to play, but even so, many times the MK808B froze or rebooted by itself while playing a movie either on MX Player or XBMC. I'm expecting the MK802IV to be more reliable and faster...

That said, what are the most common problems with the MK802IV? Thanks

EDIT: From the information I could find so far, it has huge wifi issues, at least on 4.2 firmware, so it's probably better to stay on firmware 4.1 until this is solved. Also, from the pcb board photos I saw, it has no heatsink so, most likely, it has heat / temperature problems... is this correct?

I loved my MK802 III and I am quite disappointed in the MK802 IV. Not that it's a bad device, it has huge potential, but I think this is where it is disappointing me: wasted potential until the current issues are fixed:

The device ships with Android 4.1, which doesn't support XBMC, and doesn't support USB Speakers and Mic, which is a big disappointment because rikomagic themselves upsell the MK802 IV with their new remote MK702 II which has an integrated speaker and mic, that will *not work* with the default firmware

Upgrading to firmware 4.2 then makes XBMC and USB Sound work, but breaks Netflix and destroys Wifi signal.

Therefore, in its current state, the MK802 IV gives you a choice between two sub-par firmwares: On 4.1 it's not providing anything relevant compared to the MK802 III which is half the price (except maybe raw power, potentially good if you plan to use it for games? Not my cup of tea, I want a killer Smart TV box, not a gaming console), and on firmware 4.2 it breaks some core features: netflix and Wifi.

Until the issues are fixed, I don't recommend it.

Maybe there will be a 4.2 based custom firmware release soon with all issues solved?

Hopefully developers are working on this already...

i would refuse delivery of the device and receive a refund through paypal. wifi is unusable on 4.1.1 and 4.2.2, flash/javascript doesnt work properly on 4.2.2 so lots of websites arent working well (i didnt get a chance to test it in 4.1.1 because that version is extremely buggy and totally unusable, i upgraded to 4.2.2 almost immedately after receiving it. save your cash and wait for better firmware or get a mk802iiis which works flawlessly. oh yeah video playback from a hdd studders so really this stick is a mustang engine without a car.

I have to disagree. What's so different on this device when compared with other android tv players
that had the need for a custom firmware, because they had very bad issues with their stock firmware?

Besides, there's also the chance a stock firmware that solves the problems is also released...
But I still prefer custom firmware

Thanks for the warn. Worst case scenario, I'll return it and
order something different / better at the same price

My WIFI runs just fine on all my android sticks. Obviously the wifi sucks on these devices, but I bought a Dlink 505-L wifi extender and I have it located next to my TV and android stick andI get full bars on all devices. Expecting an 80$ plastic computer box from the depths of China to run amazingly right out of the box makes one's expectations the problem, not the device. This was the same case with my imito MX1 and my MK802IIIs. Out of the box, the stock firmware was crap. Once I upgraded to Finless/NeoTV, both devices ended up working VERY well.

From what I read here on the MK802IV section, could be wrong, but I believe a custom
firmware is already under development by Bob, leolas and neomode as well , so
at least some issues will probably be solved soon

Neomode has this device. I do not. So I am counting on him to make the ROM for you guys. I will help him anyway I can but he knows much of what I do for ROMs.
