HD Audio: 8-channel LPCM over HDMI

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster, love the show. I seldom ask questions on forums as I almost always find the answers through extensive searching, but I can't seem to figure this one out, in fact I think I'm hungover from too many hours of googling last night.

I have an older Marantz SR5002 7.1 receiver. It can only decode 5.1 formats (Dolby, DTS, etc.) It can only handle 7.1 channels via LPCM over HDMI or 7.1 analog inputs. What I can't figure out is why I'm only getting stereo PCM between Vidon and the receiver. (using BD iso's with HD Audio, some with 5.1 and some with 7.1)

Tried several different "high speed" HDMI cables
Unplugged the TV from the receiver (some thought the TV handshaking might be limiting the receiver's capabilities)
I'm not using an optical cable (limited to 2ch PCM)

    Vidon settings:
    Audio output: hdmipcm
    Number of channels: 7.1
    Output configuration: Optimized
    Passthrough is turned off
    HD Audio codecs are unchecked

In some screenshots from the web, I see settings in Vidon for "Mutlichannel LPCM capable receiver", but I don't see that on my system. Am I missing some option somewhere else in Vidon?

Or is there some limitation in the s905 chip that can't handle 8ch LPCM?

This all I can think of for now, I can certainly provide further details if necessary. I'll post this question to the Vidon forums as well. Thanks!

I am running Remix OS with a recent nightly of Kodi 16, I see this setting in the audio options but have no way to check it for function.

That's a good idea, it's easy to revert back to stock, right? What do I lose if I give up Vidon?

Lost are Blu-Ray disc navigation and TrueHD in VidOn Pro. I never tried the nightly on the 5.1 F/W, but you can install it with VidOn in place. I don't think 16 will work in HD Audio, in any case it will be software decode. I do get TrueHD from the Movie Player and the MX player, but that won't help with Kodi/XBMC.
Since you do not have to uninstall VidOn to try the nightly, you can try it in 5.1. I am liking the Remix OS and I foresee no problem in going back to 5.1. I will be doing this when the new Meta image is posted(not the OTA) on Tronsmart's forum.

I could not get any True HD from the nightly. As far as Kodi/XBMC are concerned, VidOn Pro is required to get TrueHD on this box for now. The 8-Channel setting is there and can be activated, but I could not get it to produce sound. Keep in mind that I am a casual Kodi/XBMC user and don't know all the tricks or methods. I also only have older digital 5.1 AVR, so it can't handle 8 ch anyway.

My friend tried today in eMediaCenter app, TrueHD on Tronsmart R68 and was able to see HD in his AVR. VidOn could not do 8 channel as per him.

Why can't Kodi (Jarvis) out of box achieve 5.1/7.1 while other vendors are able to get it?

Thanks! I will try. Till now, I have seen only jittery sound when I turn on passthrough for 5.1 sound, in Kodi while eMediaCenter works.

But can I install in side by side with kodi? If not, I hope backup/restore of addons works, else its a pain.

Hi, Im new here and have just got a S95 Telos unit. Ive registered with vidon and have the audio pass through working. I notice this is a common problem looking on google but there doesnt appear to be a solution. When I use pass through the audo drops out momentarily approximately every 5 - 10 seconds.
Is there a fix for this?
                Cheers

I tried installing the hd audio test apk today. Says App not installed. Is uninstall of existing kodi required or is there a workaround?

Just look up how to use external players with kodi/vidon...use MX player and be done with this headache. The stuttering thing is prevalent on rk3368, this box. My draco aw50 with older version of Kodi doesn't do it..but it HaS a lot of horsepower. Could be a processor issue even though the CPU times are never maxed out.

Though it seems like its a kodi dev issue. They just don't care about these boxes and why? When China keeps churning out new ones every few months...who can keep up?
