    Repair bricked RK3066 device

    Hey there,

this is my first post in this forum and i hope that anybody can help me. I have a CaptivaPad 10.1 which is bricked. My son flashed a rom which was not made for this processor. Now i have a bricked tablet. I think, that it wont work again but ill write into this forum as my last hope. The Tablet is an RK3066 device and i already downloaded a working rom for this tablet. Originally this rom want made for this tablet but its for RK3066 and it worked before my son flashed the wrong rom. I searched the internet and i found some guides how to unbrick RK devices. They said that i need to short the NAND and then erase IDB with RKAndroid tool. Then the guide said i should upload an update.img into RK BatchTool and restore it. So i tried to do this. I have the following problem: when i connect my usb cable with an pc (Windows 7 64Bit with nothing on it) and i hold down the power key the tool recognizes a MaskRom device. I am able to erase the IDB without shorting any pins. But when i click restore in BatchTool it says Download IDB failed. So i tried to short some pins the problem: the tablet has 2 Nand Chips and i dont know which pins are right and i also dont know which NAND Chip is right. I tried the following pin combinations: 5-6, 7-8, 8,9 on both chips but i get the same error. I think its not normal that the PC recognizes the device only when I either hold down the Power Key or I plug in a Power Cable.

If somebody could help me it would be amazing. I realy dont want to throw my tablet away.

PS: Sorry for my bad english...

You are on the right track. Since getting into Mask mode in effect erases the whole NAND chip, you don't have to erase IDB because it's already erased. So, forget about that step and just proceed to flashing the ROM.

One of the main causes of a failed flash is due to a bad USB connection. Try a different cable, preferably the cable that came with the tablet. These tablet cables come with a longer micro USB connector that makes a better connection into the tablet's port. Also, try a different USB port. Rockchip drivers don't support USB 3.0, so make sure you are using a USB 2.0 port from your PC.

The exact pins to short is a trial and error thing. Sometimes you short the right pins, but there isn't good connection. I just try methodically shorting one pair at a time until I get something. Usually pins 7 and 8, but not always. On tablets with 2 NAND chips, just pick one to try....and if that doesn't work, try the other.
