What else can cause google play to think that the device is not compatable with apps?
Maybe the fact that the kernel version, or compile info is wrong?
No, only a market play problem. Try to clear data in google play and services then uninstall updateds

Cleared data and cache on Google play store app, Google framework and google play services. Also removed updates on play services. Restarted the stick, installed google app, this requested to update play services. When this was updated I wanted to install google chrome, and still this is not compatible with my device (also google calander, nova launcher, cpu-z...)

Strange strange! You can use alternative market :
        -for android amazon underground, aptoide
        -for browser www.apk-dl.com, apkmirror
-last test is to edit build.prop file, changing nexus10 with your stock device name(build.prop is in /system folder) or just overwrite it with the old one(you will lose some superceleron rom tweak but it should be compatible); you can also think to unistall playstore/google service with titanium backup and install a new version via internet
