Crappy RK3128 G918 with fake ROM size --> Root problems

Hi everyone,

a friend bought a cheap RK3188 Box that was described as Q7 with 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM (!).

After it arrived the box was horrible and he gave it to me to flash the latest "Q7" firmware.

So as far as I know there are no Q7 with 32GB which made me suspicious so I opened that thing up and saw this:

So first thing RK3188 is false its a crappy RK3128. RAM/ROM unknown (at this point). PCB Says G_918 V 1.2

In Android (4.4) System it shows 32GB ROM. Antutu 6 gives that thing ~15000 Points. After checking around the RAM seems to be correctly 2GB but the ROM is (according to android Tool) only 16GB.

So far so good or so bad.

First I dumped the original firmware:

Then I searched around and only found mentions of this crap Board/Model on the Russian 4pda Forum. I also found a working firmware in this:

With that firmware it shows correctly that the box has only 16GB ROM. Other than the boot logo and the slightly newer firmware on my box they have the same apps ect. installed.

Seems XGo DY orders this crap from the crap factory and loads their stuff on them and sell that junk on **** and Amazon claiming its the best thing ever and with "Kodi Fully Loaded". Despite this not beeing legal in so many ways its just sad that they can get trough with this crap (They also sell "fully loaded" Navigation Systems ect.).

Anyways so I told my friend that he bought a crappy and fake box i tried to root that thing.

And here comes the pain: I don't know why but there seems no way to edit the ROM Parts (I tried every tool here....just shows invalid img). I tried every (EVERY) Root Prog and App and the only thing working is some shady Root Zhushou that installs KingUser Root. While i can a normal SU on that device, the update of the SU Binaries fail.

Maybe someone could help me out here...and/or have a look at the rom....why the heck it can't be edited rooted ect.

It looks like it only has 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM.
Never heard of a RK3128 with 2GB RAM, that will push up the price beyond $50.
Better to through it away and buy a decent tv box.
So many people just look at the price and not at quality & after sales support.

Where do you see 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM ?

I pushed a 9GB MKV over to the internal storage for some Speed-Testing and it worked so it has definatly more than 8GB. Not sure about the RAM tough.

As for the Box...yes i told him that too. Some people just learn the hard way

But in his case he was sure that it is a Q7 with a RK3188 which would be ok for his usage (Only 720P Movies, no Gaming ect.). So the seller is to blame even more. But what can you expect from a Aliexpress Seller with just 20 transactions...

As for the Root. I was able to switch to SuperSU after trying forever but after a reboot I am back to the SU-Binarys need a updated but can't get one

I agree, major issue for me is video playback in Kodi stutters badly. (Mkv and Mp4 ..especially 1080p)

Sometimes after few mins, but shows up immediately if, along the time line bar, jump back and fort, once or twice.
Easily seen at movie end credits.

I have a 8gb box with 2gb ram but the same cheap box,But newer rom HX_31xx-eng 4.4.4 KTU84Q eng.ren.20160412.110317 test-keys
To root it I used mrw I didn't bother installing kingroot as adb give me root access.
If I just run the root.sh supersu would fail or would be lost on reboot,Not sure why ?

The first thing push the mrw folder to box adb push mrw /sdcard/mrw


Then connect to box adb shell

Then mount the filesystem # mount -o rw,remount /system

Then redirect busybox # cat sdcard/mrw/busybox > /system/bin/busybox

Then change mode # chmod 0755 /system/bin/busybox

Then run the script "It will complain about not finding kingroot etc if you haven't installed it" # sh sdcard/mrw/root.sh

I have the exact same fake android tv box you have, did you ever get it to work . I've tried almost everything. If so, what firmware did you use? Ive tried a couple, but when i go to turn on the tv box, its stays on "Android" or "Rockchip" screen, depending on the firmware.

for a 8gb box with 2 gb of ram should work with other boxes i'e bloodgnomes as the parameters are the same,i could only use his if i didn't flash catch and userdata,
I've rooted the system,img with supersu updated kodi added smpc no plugins added for kodi and smpc, added total commander and reboot, and a terminal for android.
I've got twrp working fine on this box backup fine and recover i'll upload it when i've got chance just the standard recovery here though.
There is no cache or userdata with this file, i always have better luck starting afresh from maskmode.

Thanks for the firmware, I have this exact board and was successful at flashing with your firmware, I have been trying for a long time but have been unsuccessful until now. The only problem I am running into is Google Play store is not working, the page will not load, any idea ho to fix that, also hope you get around to uploading the recovery image. Thanks again for you help.

I haven't had that problem with play store, the only thing i can think of is the time and date right, this box is bad at keeping time when it wakes the time is wrong.
As for the recovery i use twrp i'll post it when i get chance
