Clone MK808-B that support Dobby 5.1? Is it normal?

I just bought a Mk808-B (stated is Original but the print on case is not the MiniTV logo but a Double Swan). It comes with 4.2.2 ROM rooted, tested running surround sound test video from Youtube and found that THX Dobby 5.1 works but AC3 failed (or it could be my audio system does not support AC3.). Is it normal for this model to have 5.1 as the Minix X5 is fighting hard to get 5.1? Wonder can this feature be ported over to X5?
The sound setting just shown one output option - Rockchip HDMI.

I would like to flash to Finless 2.1 ROM (existing ROM XBMC not working and weak Wifi) but am worry that if it is not compatible and it crashes I may lost the existing working ROM.

I had extracted the backup.img and all the crucial .img like kernel, boot, recovery and system.img
But I am not sure how to restore them if need to.
    Your advise please.....TIA.

The ROM was dated in March 2013.

      It's uploading....

I have opened and confirmed the set is MK808-B (pls help me to confirm again)
Why initially I suspect it is a clone bcos the Antutu v3.3 score I'm getting is only 5XXX+
And I have modded the Wifi quickfix as suggested by Bob in the other thread. Wifi strength has since improved. Thanks Bob for sharing.

Let's take a look at some pics...while uploading.
Let me know if you need other img files.

I have failed to flashed recovery-cwm.zip (6.31MB) both i) by copying to /sdcard and rename it to update.zip and ii) dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mtdblock3. Any suggestion?

I think it is a 808b because it has the same Wifi Chip and the cooler

Due to some error, I have to flashed to 2.1ROM.
Everything works fine including the DD5.1 surround sound so it is normal for 4.2.2 I think.

Guys 5.1 has mostly always worked! What does not work is 5.1 pass-through.

Do not confuse the two please.

Hi Bob, can you briefly explain what does it means by pass -through? and what is not? Sorry, I am new to this.

Very basically pass-though is when u send the signal without decoding to an external decoder to perform all the decoding process. For example, you can send a digital AC3 or DTS signal to your external amplifier y the amplifier decodes the 5.1 or 7.1 by itself. This way the ampliefer recieves a digital signal directly.

As you can imagine, you can also get 5.1 already decoded in your device and send the 6 analog signals to your amplifier, then the amplifier just "powers" up the sound.

What I don't understand is why Bob says 5.1 mostly works... Bob, can we get 5.1 audio from an MK808 or MK808B using HDMI ? I have it connected and it's not working for me... or did you mean using an USB external sound card ?

                      Thanks, hope this helps...

                        Hi, thanks for your reply.

I'm noob to audio system. Below is my set up and I'm not sure is it consider pass-through or not.

I have an audio system connected via HDMI to my TV.
I connect MK808-B and other media player to TV via HDMI too.

The Video mode in audio system is selected when I play movie from the media player or MK808-B and it can produce dd5.1 surround sound.

This works for my MK808-B but not for my X5 (ROM1.2b) with the same connection.

For MK808-B, I'm using ROM2.1. The different I see in the setting for MK808-B is sound device manager shows only HDMI ouput whereas X5 doesn't has HDMI output option even for the latest firmware.

I have tried the version 011 firmware on X5 and it is not working for my set up and due to unstable condition I have reverted back to ROM1.2b. I am hoping the upcoming ROM1.3 can solve the problem.

                        Hope it is clear.
