I came across a comparison between the RK3188 and the A31 a couple of days ago.

Also good to note that the A31 has L1 (128KB) and L2 (1MB) cache while the RK3188 does not.

I'm a bit surprised however that there are so few sticks running on A31 today on the market. I'd rather prefer A31 to RK3188 in terms of video playback because after having used my MK808 I'm a bit disapointed in RK's video performance (color gradients, artefacts, no HDMI sound pass through etc). So, it would be great if there was a subforum for A31 devices here.

Doesnt the MK808 use the RK3066 and not the RK3188?

Yes, it does. But I don't think they did their homework with this upgrade. The video performance is not as good as on A31. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

From the reviews I've seen the 3188 is faster overall in benchmarks (Antutu scores out of the box), but the A31 is a lot better for 3D games.

Not only in games (3D), it handles with ease 4K videos. No artefacts, no color gradients, the picture is very smooth and silky. Don't know about sound pass through though...

Tried U4K. Rom 4.1.1. Actual video output 720p only. Video contract and colour seems better than transmart t428. I like U4k more. It has built in bluetooth, but once switch on bt, wifi won’t work and there is serious lip sync delay when using bt headphone/speaker. It gets real hot some times and reboot. Antutu about 9000.


Now my problem is I sorta bricked my device. I flashed cs868 (another A31tv stick, but no bt) 4.1 rom to U4K. Now wifi won’t work, usb debugging can’t turn on, nand show zero memory. It can go to recovery mode. However, i don’t have stock rom zip, i only got the img file. I tried many times but seems no way to make my pc reckonised u4k anymore, so no way to use pheonix tool.

Anyone can offer help ?

Hi, can you please tell me how you updated? I cannot see any reset botton. I got to recovery mode, but cannot continue with update. Wanted to try Mele firmware. Thanks

Bad things

• No HDMI audio pass-through (at least I can't work out how to)
• HDMI video controller limited to 2160P output even though device can decode 4k video
• BT Airmouse key repeat is annoying
• 720p kernel
