M8s blinking *want to throw out of window!*

Hi guys

First post on here. Im hoping you could help me out. I see there are a lot of talented guys and guyettes in here!

Anyways bought an OTT TV box player (M8s) and it is driving me nuts now.

Basically working fine until a few days ago. Starts blinking from the optical light on the front when i power it on. No picture etc.

Changed hdmi lead and no difference. Has android kitkat on it and kodi isengard 15.2.

I turn it off after every use by the plug and put it back on when using.

Ideas anyone?

Have you tried a different power supply with the same or better capacity i.e. 5V, 2 or more Amps etc.? You must only use a high quality power supply as this type of TV box can be easily damaged by a turn-on spike. Make very sure before testing that the DC plug on the new power supply has the same polarity i.e. the same positive and negative terminals.

I havent im afraid. That is something I can try.

Do I always have to keep it on then?

It does turn on at times but it takes a long time

I'm not sure that the power supply is faulty but this would usually be one of the things to test before trying to reflash the firmware. Many of the power packs are made from very cheap components and often go bad. This is more likely to happen if you have been using a portable hard drive which draws power from the TV box and puts more strain on the power adapter. I'm not sure that a faulty power supply would eventually power up the box after a long time but it's possible. Does the current power supply get hot or have a burnt/chemical smell?

I also turn my unit off each time after using it. Some of the manufacturers have a warning regarding replacing the power adapter with a compatible one as you can see in the link below in the paragraph before Highlights. In some of the cheap power adapters the voltage can rise slightly above 5V for a very brief period immediately after being switched on and this can apparently damage the TV box. The manufacturers generally recommend that you only use their own power adapters. Did you purchase the product in your own country? Maybe you could contact the supplier to see if you can borrow or get a cheap replacement?

You should also be able to find one on Amazon, **** or similar from a supplier that sells TV boxes or related equipment. Alternatively you should be able to find a good quality adapter at a specialist electronics store in your area. Just take along the original so that you can get something with the same sized power plug and polarity.
