Safe to install OpenELEC?

With all I've read here I can't make sense of whether or not it's safe to install OpenELEC on my box or not ... I'm not sure what brand it is.

First of all you would need to download off Google Play an app like CPU-Z (for example) and get all the information to know what kind of box you have.

Second of all, i would HIGHLY SUGGEST you AND anyone who buys android boxes like these to first BACKUP their entire firmware and save it in case something happens while flashing/installing.

Third, you would have to open your box and check which one you have, as per a lot of people on the forums ...there's a bunch of clones being sold and even if they look alike there's a high percentage of chances that they're completely different from each other.

Fourth and final be sure to ask all the questions you need after you find all the informations needed to proceed into OpenELEC and such.

After having to unbrick three or four of the twenty or so M8 boxes that I've worked on I have come to the conclusion that, unless it's an original M8 or M8N it's not worth the time and effort unless you're not freaked out by the idea of a brick. I will say that I have not come across one that I can't unbrick but, due to the huge number of different clones, each time it becomes a learning exercise to recover and hunting down compatible roms.
