Matricom Q2 - S812 - TWRP

All,

Just got this box and it works pretty well. It handles almost anything I throw at it in terms of android apps and video files.

I have Kodi, Plex and a number of TV and video android apps and no problem. By the way - this box comes rooted from the manufacturer ...

I also have the earlier version of the box which worked well too and there was a TWRP that worked.

But the TWRP for the old box (TWRP 2.8.7.0) does not work on the new Q2 box.

Matricom must have changed some of the memory locations or something.

The box is perfect for me - except - stuck with the crappy recovery (CWM based) that it comes with.

It doesn't do half the stuff TWRP does like NAND backups - clearing the Dalvik cache etc.

Could you direct me to whom I should contact to get a TWRP that works. Or where I could download it from ....

Oh, and I did request a TWRP version at TWRP's official site as well .....

It is a nice box. Have you tried twrp for other s812 boxes. I haven't yet. There is a thread for quite a few somewhere

That is an excellent idea. Haven't tried that yet.

I will undertake to test all I can find over the next couple of days.

Prahjister you are da man!

I found an S812 based TWRP that works !

The TWRP 2.8.7.0 T8PLUS works for the Q2 box.

BUT, you have to copy it to your SD CARD using an Android based file manager. Copying it to the SD CARD using Windows does not work!!

I have a 250G hard drive attached to my Matricom Q2 and used FTP from my Windows PC to copy all of
the possible TWRP files to the hard drive.

I then used ES File Explorer to copy it to my SD Card as recovery.img. And poof - it worked!
Tested all of the normal functionality and it all works. Now perfectly happy with my Matricom Q2 box.

If I understand your question - TWRP does have a restore function. Did not test that though.

I did use the restore function with my older Q box and it worked. The restore.img is from the same family so I would expect it would work.

I will give it a try later .... with the backup I did as a test.

I have not tried it. I just take TWRP backups and those restores work.
