Received my MK908 and nothing is working as it should - is my unit faulty?

Got my stick from geekbuying today with the lates 4.2.2. rom installed.

I am having a lot of problems with it.

Wifi: download speeds are very slow, 20 - 100 kb per sec. Its too slow to watch youtube, and chrome won't even load a page. I did tests on my android phone and tablet that are connected to the same wifi network, at the same distance from the router: they reach speeds of 3 to 4 mb per sec. I used wifi analyzer to check the signal on the stick, it is is perfect so that cant be the problem, although several times wifi connection was gone and no wireless networks were detected at all until i disabled and enable wifi.

USB: Wireless mouse. I have to place the stick in front of the TV otherwise the mouse wont work. Its always choppy and sometime doesnt respond at all. For comparison, the exact same mouse on my laptop, which is a lot further away, works perfect from anywhere in the room.

Droid mote: same as the mouse, but even worse. It works for a few seconds (choppy) and then stops working at all, with no notification or error. Must be related to the bad wifi connection.

Bluetooth keyboard: Connected once, but never was able to type with it. After that, i never managed to reconnect it again. The stick doesnt detect it anymore.

I hope i am doing something totally wrong, but i have a feeling something is wrong with my device. Tried several restarts of stick, modem, router. I also did a factory reset all to no avail.
    Any input is appreciated.

Try and dump the newest Finless rom onto it and see what that does.

Just flashed the latest official rom. Wifi speed is still too slow. Did some speed tests; result:

      MK908:
      Down 1,46Mb/s
Up 4,35Mb/s (up is about 4 times higher than down!!)

      Tablet: (same wifi network)
      Down 11.74Mb/s
      Up: 4.64Mb/s

So there seems to be definitely something wrong with the download speed, while the upload seems to be ok. Any ideas?

Unfortunately my knowledge base pretty much ends at dumping roms. I'm pretty sure the MK908 has an antenna in the casing soldered to the board using two wires, its possible from manufacturing one or possibly both of the leads have poor connections.

I would suggest an RMA through Geekbuying, they are active on this forum they may just chime into this thread if you are lucky.

Definitely sounds like a Wifi solder problem. The two ends of the wifi antenna are probably soldered together, they should not be. I read about this happening on some of these devices. This could definitely cause the wifi issue you are having. If you know or know someone that can solder, its a real easy fix. Just desolder the wifi antenna, and then resolder the two wires back making sure they are not touching each other. Then run a test to see if the problem was fixed, if not reverse the order of the wires you soldered.

I am willing to give it a try, I did a similar fix to my htc one that had a bad antenna, however isn't the fact that the signal is good an indication that the antenna is fine?

Well not necessarily, but before cracking it open i would check to see if doing so will void your warranty. Just in case that's not the problem, you want to still be able to RMA it.

You mentioned you had a wireless device. Try plugging a regular mouse instead. I had very poor wifi reception too and found out it was the Ipazzport wireless mouse/keyboard that was causing the problem (problem interference as my WiFi and that device are both on 2.4ghz band).
