Help wanted with S812 box please

Hi I was hoping one of you really smart people could help a not so smart person with my S812 box please. Its a CX-806 and was originally Andriod but rebuilt by the seller (who is not responding to me) to Openelec. Its been running like a dog so I have factory wiped all the addons. I was hoping I could install a newer version of Openelec and Kodi (currently 5.0.8 unofficial and 14.2) but have had no luck. I have posted on another forum but got a very short sharp response. if its not possible ill bin it and carry on using my massive laptop plugged into the telly. Any advice and help gratefully received, but please remember I'm new to most of this and will need a bit of hand holding.

Factory reset (firmware: http://chinagadgetsreviews.blogspot....-stock_19.html) and Install Kodi through Kodi.tv download the apk and install.

thanks for the info, unfortunately the link for the USB burning tool does not work, and I was also hoping not to flash back to android 4.4.2
