    MiBox Pro 2S (MDZ-09-AA)

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums but have a bit of experience in loading custom roms for phones. I own a Xiaomi MiBox Pro 2S (1GB version), model MDZ-09-AA. I followed instructions and rooted it so I could load Google Gapps for youtube, playservice, etc ...

Well, quite a while ago, gapps stopped working on my MiBox. Hardware-wise, It has Quad-Core Cortex A9, 2.0 Ghz, Mali-450MP6 Mali-450 MP6, H.264, 4K resolution, and DTS. From what I've read, it has the S802 chip inside. It's very close to a Minix X8 hardware-wise.

I'm exploring just loading a different ROM that lets me upgrade versions and lets me use Gapps. I've looked around and there was a Remix OS for the MiBox but I can't seem to download it from Baidu. I'm wondering if anybody knows of where I can find another ROM? I've thought about trying to use the Minix firmware but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. I don't mind soft-bricking my box where I can get into the recovery to load up a recovery ROM but hard-bricking is not something I'm willing to try.

Any feedback or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

So I was able to download the remix is for mibox but the 2 gb memory version. I'm just wondering, I understand that there could be other hardware differences but if everything was the same and the only difference was the memory size, could I use this ROM on my device? Any thoughts from anybody?

I did root and install Gapps when I first got the box (1.5 years ago). However, something has gone wrong and gapps doesn't work anymore. It seems to be a common issue is the latest rom updates.

I haven't tried installing Remix rom yet but I did some searching and it seems that there was some initial attempt for a custom recovery to be installed. http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...devices/page33

I'm still doing some searches as I don't want to hard brick my box. If you're going to try the Remix ROM, I think you're going to have to at least root your box. I think the steps I followed closely resemble these:

I uploaded the Remix OS for Mi Box (MDZ-09-aa) that I downloaded from Baidu to filedropper as it's about 392 MB in size. Note that on one 1 website, it said this was for the 1 GB version and on another website, it was for the 2 GB version. I don't know since I haven't tried it.

Also, I remember finding a post a long time ago, that somebody followed a thread for restoring the Mibox from a bricked status (using the USB burning tool) and he ended up loading Minix and wanted to go back. I've thought about trying the Minix OS as well and it seems that the X8H would match the MiBox hardware (chipwise) but I'm not sure about Wifi and other hardware. I'm still doing some research.

Please let me know if you give this a try and how it went. I'll do the same if I end up loading a custom ROM. I think I've already over-ridden the default Xiaomi recovery as I seem to have more a stock recovery now. (I used the USB burning tool).

I just signed up too after I came across this thread. I have got the mibox bricked 2 months ago. Since then i have been trying to look for solution to unbrick the mibox. My mibox is MDZ-09-AA. However, it seems there is no way to unbrick this box yet .. I recently just follow the instruction from this site http://en.miui.com/thread-137205-1-1.html and I managed to flash the firmware into the box with 100% success. And I am stuck there till now. The box still haven't booted up yet and can' even get into recovery mode. I try to flash the same firmware again but this time all keep failing. Mainly it failed at 6%.
And is there anyone here could help me please ..? I really appreciate any suggestion given .. And one more thing, since i flash the firmware i downloaded from the link i just mentioned, the pc detected the mibox as Neo-X8h-Plus portable Media device. So is there any hope to unbrick the mibox?

Well I guess the Minix ROM is probably a bad idea to try then.

If I were you Mibox MDZ-09-AA Bricked, I would first try and get a recovery working. I would try both the custom twrp for Minix X8H as well as the twrp that was in this thread I found (mentioned above as well) using the USB burning tool. http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...devices/page33. After trying to load the recovery, I'd try and load the Remix OS. If that didn't work, there are copies of MIUI out there that you could try and load as well.

Double check the file size for the 1 GB version. When I downloaded the 1 GB version from Baidu, the file size was extremely small (< 1 mb) rather than a file close to 400 mb.

                        Nagoo1,

What steps did you take? I'd like to roll back my version too.

keenez thanks for the suggestion. However as I load the twrp image into USB Burning Tool, i got the error parse burning image failed. So there is no way I could flash any custom recovery into the mibox.

sorry for the late reply .. i found this shared folder on baidu that contains some files for mibox 2s

i downloaded the GITV file (340mb), put it on a flash disk with the xiaomi-update file (very small file but i couldn't attach it here, u already have it)
unplug the box, re-plug and boot into recovery, it should start updating automatically

if you dont have the xiaomi_update file you can create it
                              1. new text file, name it xiaomi_update.txt
                              2. open the txt file and write this
                              --update_package=/udisk/update.zip
                              --wipe_data
                              3.save and exit
                              4. remove the .txt from file name

remember that the update file should be called (update.zip)
you can also flash the firmware with the flashing tool from your pc or laptop, the flashing tool is in the same link i posted in the previous post
