Pipo M8 Pro and 1tb ext HDD

    M8 Pro users,

anyone tried connecting a 1tb portable HDD to the M8 Pro?

anything I need to make it read? or it just won't work by default?

    thanks

The only problem I've had is that the USB port isn't strong enough to power an external hard drive. You need one with its own power supply.

i see, thanks for the reply .... but most portable HDD nowadays are just plug & play ....

do they have a separate power supply for external HDD at the market?

will do a search ... thanks again

Sometimes you can run them through a powered USB hub. If the drivers are there, anyway.

You need something called a "Y" cable - besides the mini/micro plug for the drive and the standard plug for the data source it has a second standard plug for a power source. The power source could be another socket on your PC, a hub, or a USB battery.

I have a few of the external HDD's that actually came with a "Y" cable just for that reason. But I haven't tried running it on a tablet.

Have you gotten any indication as to what is the upper limit of what the M8pro can supply? I'm tinkering with trying to get a wifi dongle to work - and have little luck. Seems I probably have to buy one based on another chipset... and I came over a 500mW small nifty piece with external antenna
