I can't solve this puzzle. I've been going for hours trying to figure out what exactly causes the wifi to not work properly when the antenna is close to the chip. I know it's not grounding at least as I isolated everything properly. Any experts on this field? Could it be interference?

While a expert anwer, i will give you my oppinion. Yes i think electrical interference is the answer, in some sticks, not only mk802IV, when the internal antenna is out of the stick the signal improves a lot. Some sticks like mk808b(rk903) have a really bad board design related to radiofrequency interference, and internal antenna is almost useless.
