Real android tv firmware

sorry for the probably extremely dumb question but is it possible to replace the 'phone' android version installed on these Chinese s905x boxes by a proper android tv version ? Thanks !

You look for a rooted rim and simply install it. It has to be exactly for your device.
Kiii comes rooted already, x98 doesnt but has a rooted image update available for download.
Some come rooted some don't, don't buy the ones that dont, that's my advice unless you know in advance that there's a rooted rom avilable.

You don't buy the box then look for a way to root, you buy a rooted box or you buy a non rooted box that you know for certain that it can be rooted easily. That's where you do your homework here in advance.

Both items I mentioned above are good androids especially or kodi use.
