I would like to save the interface that was created with a launcher app. The "main" screen so to speak. Might only be possible to save the settings? Anyone attempted this?

if you have root you can use TitaniumBackup to save your current Settings and Apps on SDCard and for save you can copy the Android/data/obb folder to the same SDCard,or you can use a CWM or TWRP Recovery to backup your data.
