After flashing the image above from GearBest my WiFi no longer works.
Probably a different WiFi chip??
Any ideas?

I think you have the device with https://www.qualcomm.com/products/qca9377 chipset and I have the same. I bought device as NinkBox TX8, not as Tanix TX8. And in the my build.prop file I see the property:

ro.product.otaupdateurl=http://www.oranthservice.com:81/tx8_9377/otaupdate/update

It's looking like a suffix "_9377" - for devices with QCA9377 chipset.

So, I think you need to look for firmware for TX8 with Qualcomm QCA9377 WiFi/Bluetooth chipset...

I didn't flash firmware 20161028 from GearBest yet. So, I still have firmware with build number 20161010. I know that we can to run TWRP recovery on our devices and potentially I can to make TWRP backup of my firmware. I'll test it later.

I have no idea where to find another image, but the cursory Google search showed your post to 4pda Russian forum.
As we share a Slavic language I could understand some of it.

Just that the name of the ROM might be tx8_1023.img too.

yes, but also must be the date in the filename. For that you should to know the date of your previous firmware.
