Random screen blackouts on MXQ Pro 4K

I have the MXQ Pro 4k box. I have recently been experiencing random black screen events. The box is completely non responsive once the screen blacks out until I unplug the box and plug it back up, however, the black outs keep happening and are getting more frequent. I have tried the toothpick method to reset the box and it still is acting the same way. What else can I do to correct this problem? I cannot find any information past the toothpick method anywhere. Please help!! I love my box

It is probably an overheating issue.
Most MXQ boxes doesn't matter the chipset inside, suffer some sort of overheating since they use very weak heatsinks or none at all.
There is no quality control when they leave the factory and you might even have a defective unit.
You can try extra cooling or down clocking it with an app like nofrillsCPU control or something and see if it helps.

It has not run hot and has been working for months. It started acting like this after the most recent update of kodi came out and now I can't get it to stay on long enough to do the update
