Re-purposing TV Box for general Android uses...

    Hi Folks.
We have an extra box that I want to use as a sort of Android Desktop system.
I will be removing most of the multimedia apps & putting in some other ones that I want.

What confuses me is launchers...the one it came with is the standard thing with all the big, boxy places to click.
I want to replace that ASAP.
A phone launcher that I like & use is Lollipop Launcher.
But as with most it is intended for phones, so if I install it for use on a bigger screen, any idea what it might do...?

I'm wishing I had known enough to get a box that included a mic & BT, but I'll make do with what I have.

Thanks for any helpful replies !!

Hi,,Nothing bad will happen install it & it will work fine

Screen shots below from the Dolamee D5 with the lollipop launcher you wanted to try

Nova launcher is also a great one

And as for a mic you could always use a webcam something like a logitech c270 should do the job

Maybe you can try RemixOS on it.

Thanks Blinkone - that is extremely helpful !!!
I do have a webcam here someplace, but it is just a cheapie - might as well give it a shot anyhow.

        Thanks to you also, Neomode.
I really don't feel very well suited to changing the OS on a box - I think that is well above my skill level !!

It would be great if there was some way to get an older, spare phone that I have just sitting here to act as an input device - I have searched for some app that might do that, but haven't found anything yet.
There's a bunch of things named like 'wireless mic' but the ones I've found don't connect one "Droid to another as in input device.

USB sound card's "mic in" will work fine on some boxes. They can be had for well under $10USD, some as little as $3 shipped. You'd still need a microphone, of course.

            Thanks RISCy Dude.
Someone (maybe yourself ??) had told me that before & I've yet to locate mine & try it...post moving means lots of un-findable stuff !!

Yeah, I don't care for moving, it's like trying to unscramble an egg. Good luck on the hunt smith2.
