My first look at the Egreat A5,
Very well packaged and presented with all the bits to make it happen, and yes AU Power Adapter amongst things excellent.

What's in the Box

Lets have a bit of a look on the inside, well made good construction, solid and well finished.

Looks like a powerful box with great specs but I would question the inclusion of only 2.4Ghz Wireless.

Most definitely right in the Q10 Pro and Shield territory so will be interesting to see how it stacks up.

Yes Interesting Unit... Android but not as we are use to, own thing really.
Has VidOn installed (Kodi 16.1 worked) 16.1.2, build 4th November
This is a Media Player that plays media it sole purpose (it can do other things) no Google play as yet, but still looking, excellent player display on the front is Brill.
Plugged in a sata drive full of 4k demos, 400 mbit easy as with its inbuilt player, Different UI snaps soon. but looking good so far and it does physically look good.

Bit of a fiddle this evening, getting use to how it all works and what the deal is and the deal is looking pretty good indeed,
The A5 will play just about everything I throw at it easy either by Vidon or its own player and numerous other ways I am yet to find/appreciate,

Firmware update this day, to version 1.2.6 desktop and Firmware 1.0.1.3, all easy place on a USB stick push reset and power on...few minutes later all done about 5 all up, from go to woe.

Let's have a bit of a look around at the UI and bits it has to offer.
Also a Different App store in use, has some popular item, that are media related, Netflix, Hule, Plex KOdi, and Numerous others and various other Apps and games etc.

Egreat has a point of difference, and by the looks they wish to support and control this to give the end user the best possible experience
with their product and not have to worry about other possibilities etc.

A brave move in this day and age, a good product for what it can do, not cannot.

It is hard to say what people will pay for a thing. Either they sell enough to make it profitable or they will adopt a new strategy, or disappear.

Not having better WiFi will be an issue for some, but others find the wire more desirable, for those, having G-Bit LAN will be enough.

If this box does what it does well, the addition of USB3.0 and SATA connections could be a draw. Of course, SATA is seen on other, less pricey boxes, but often it is via a USB bridge and may not offer full functionality. Anyone know if this SoC handles SATA natively?

Don't usually see both Optical and Coaxial outputs on a device.

This box does carry a premium, time will tell if it can justify it. It is a little out of my range for any media player/ATV box, but of course, people, their budgets and their needs vary.

This SoC seems to offer a lot. But yeah, the market segment for such a box will be a bit narrower than some.

The shear number of different devices in this arena almost guarantees there is something for everyone.

FWIW I read somewhere that Nougat may come to this box.

Another Firmware update today.

The Egeat A5 due to its unique features and interface is becoming interesting to use as everything is not driven by Google so to speak something new and different always to be found.
Rather enjoying this player and what it has to offer,
I have Netflix I have Plex and the Media I have play's with ease.

If your looking for something a little different form the norm this may be the go, and it does have that look.

Its bigger Brother the A10 is as good a looker
