Which advantage to ROMS for Pipo M8 Pro

    Hello,

Since I am new and still waiting on my shipment from China with a Pipo M8 Pro with 3G, I was wondering whether I may ask the followign question.

I am wondering what the advantage is of installing a ROM to replaceme the the stock rom?

    Cheers,

    L

The #1 reason for flashing a custom ROM is to obtain Root. This allows you to run apps that require a rooted system...such as Titanium Backup.

There are other features such as increased space for installing apps.

A custom ROM contains tweaks that allows more compatibility with apps from Google Play Store.

From time to time developers find problems in the stock firmware that we can fix.

Of coarse, there is a certain amount of risk associated with flashing a custom ROM. But as you can see we have thousands of satisfied members here on Freaktab who have done it.

The good thing is that you are doing your homework.

Just to add a little further...I have been without my M8P for about 10 days, and just picked up my replacement today. I'm at work, so I haven't had a chance to flash my latest ROM. But I am still playing with between patients in the emergency room...and I'm reminded of how much better these things are when they are rooted. Hahaha!!!!!

When I use a ROM from here, will it be updated over the air? Or will I have to do the manual updating each and every time?

Good luck with your patients, and thank you a mil for your work with us and the patients

So far, you have to do manual updates with all custom ROMs. Don't expect this to change soon.

How do we do the manual updates? I assume we don't have to do the complete step as the first time?

Everything but the driver installation. Thats how it usually works. I suggest you backup with titanium backup or similar, first.

Believe me...flashing a new rom becomes easier each time you do it. The challenge is getting it right the first time because of having to install Windows drivers.

                  Hi,

I just opened my package with the fancy looking tablet

I was just wondering, which of the installed programs (or call it bloatware) will not be installed with your newest ROM (which I believe is now 1.6)?

                  Thanks a lot!

Re: Which advantage to ROMS for Pipo M8 Pro

I remove anything spelled in Chinese including the Chinese keyboard. There is a first time setup app that I remove. In the latest M8P ROM I removed the stock launcher because it requires a code from Pipo to activate along with a package of other apps that require the code to activate.

I have asked for the code to my tablet from Pipo...so future ROMs may include a choice of stock everything or debloat everything.
