XBMC for MK808 Best Combination of Rom & Kernel?

    Hi 2 all

This thread is dedicated to all users of XMBC for finding best combination of Rom & Kernel!

I use Finless 1.7c 720p with 2dark4u 1.4 with libstagefright(included in rom) and advancedsettings.xml + 00script, and i experince glitches on 720p streming, only when subs are on.

What is the best combination for you?

    Finless 2.1 with 2dark4u 1.4 720p or 1080p
    Finless 1.7 with 2dark4u 1.4 720p or 1080p
    Minix 2.3.3 with 2dark4u 1.4 720p or 1080p

    Any other combination?

Do u use heatsink for 1080p kernels?

      BEYOND xbmc ist great

kolega netreba ti dodatno hlađenje ako kernel nije extremno overclockovan...ako je samo prepravljen za 1080p netreba ništa...

          Finless 1.7c + packaged Finless 720p kernel + libstagefright + beyond xbmc

Fantastic setup... works so well I'm not even bothering tinkering with it in so long. Still running off the "2a" packaged psu.

Glitches could mean a number of things, including power supply, libstagefright or XBMC version.

You cant use the 2dark4u kernel with Finless 2.0. I would use the 1080p kernel and underclock the CPU from 1.4ghz to around 1ghz. XBMC does not need anything more for a smooth experiance.

With a MK808 there is zero reason not to use the 2dark4u kernel if you want XBMC, you'll get a massive performance boost.
              Currently Using:
2 x Nvidia Shield TV | MiniMX III
              Retired Devices:
              MiniMX III-II | Mk808b Pro | Mk808b Plus | Raspberry Pi 1 + 2 | UBOX R89 | MK808 | MK808b | CS008 | X1 4K (rk3288_809) | CYX_809III | Ouya | CX-919 | S82 Plus | Tronstmart R68

using beyond xbmc 3.3 ... ( although i think this problem extends to all of xbmc )

Does anyone else have high CPU usage at idle ( on the menus ). I did some reading, find these settings can help:

Am I barking up the wrong tree? ( obviously we're way past Eden )

But with the recent release of XBMC Eden there’s a new solution in town that does work. Two new options have been added: <algorithmdirtyregions /> and <nofliptimeout /> work together to intelligently manage how portions of the screen are repainted, essentially allowing only the bits that change to be redrawn.

Just edit ~/.xbmc/userdata/advancedsettings.xml and make it look like the following:

                <advancedsettings> <gui> <algorithmdirtyregions>1</algorithmdirtyregions> <nofliptimeout>0</nofliptimeout> </gui></advancedsettings>

I'm not sure if I had high cpu usage, but the menus work OK. I doubt this is the solution, and I know this is on the beyond xbmc 3.3 post already, but just in case you missed it:

If you find that the Interface it too slow on your device then go to Skin Settings and under "General" click on "Enable Minimum Specifications Settings".
I think it did help a bit with the menu performance for me (not sure about CPU usage, though).

edit: Looking at your post a second time, it looks like you are making a suggestion rather than asking a question. I'm a little confused

I used Gotham beta and it's working with stock 4.2.2 like a charm... I recently played with XAF version also without any bugs! I will try out Beyond and share my experience in about a month.

Ha, thanks. No, I was asking a question, but not very clearly

Anyone else seeing high cpu usage when xbmc is idle, ie: just at the menu?

I posted that info about advanced settings to see if it rang any bells - maybe someone else had tried it.

I am already using the setting for "minimum specs".

However, today, I did some more reading and found that by turning off the RSS feed at the bottom ( and maybe setting the vsync setting to "only during video playback" that my utilization is much lower now.

So ... at this point, I don't have any more questions!
