MK808B clone can't boot with clones kernel, only original kernel

    Dear Freaktab users,

Please help for my problem with this tv stick,
I got my mk808b 3 weeks ago with android 4.2, according to this forum it would be clone v1 since it has a heatsink and I clearly read the mediatek chip for wifi+bt. Then, I followed Leolas thread about CWM and install it, I use MK808B-MT-CWM and able to make CWM backup of my stock FW. Still following Leolas thread for installing finless 1.7 for v1 clones via CWM and it install successfully. I loved the ROM and bless you finless for a great ROM.

However, after a couple days my mk808b just stop working and stuck at penguins couple without particular reason. I tried to push the reset button when it boot to go to CWM but it failed. This were my attempts to revive my mk808b:

    1. I flash it using Finless flash tool, for the first time I flashed finless1.7clone v1, I had no problem in installing the driver and flashing, but the result is still stuck at two penguins.

    2. Second try, I flashed finless1.7 for original mk808b, it boots so well, but i need the wifi and bluetooth and this FW failed to turn on the wifi and bluetooth. Then on this firmware I install the CWM-MT which previously succeed, after install the CWM on finles1.7originalmk808b it stuck at 2 penguins.

    3. Third try, I reflashed finless2.1originalmk808b so the partition would fit for android 4.2 kernel, boot ok, no wifi+bt. Change the recovery to CWM non MT, boot to the android OK but no wifi+bt, boot to CWM and restore my stock ROM, restore ok, reboot, stuck at 2 penguins, so wierd.

    4. flashed minix hybrid 2.2.4 using RKbatchtool, restore ok, boot to android but no wifi+bt. Later on I try so many combination for partition parameter, kernel, recovery and system.

    5. Finless2.1mk808b = boot to android, no wifi+bt.
    6. Finless1.7mk808b original + android 4.2 partition parameter = boot to android, no wifi+bt.
    7. MinixHybrid224mk808b ori = boot to android, no wifi+bt
    8. Finless1.7clone v1 = stuck at 2 penguins
    9. Finless1.7sunvel clone = stuck at 2 penguins
    10. Finless1.7clonev1 + finless original mk808b kernel and recovery = bootloop at boot animation
    11. Finless2.1 + stock kernel and recovery = stuck at 2 penguins
    12. etc.

The point is, I must flash with original MK808B kernel+recovery so my clone MK808B may boot, even finless1.7clonev1 CWM which I previously used would stuck at 2 penguins, original kernel+clone recovery= 2 penguins, clone kernel+original recovery = 2 penguins. It's so strange.

When flashing so many times, I also learned that:
    1. pressing reset button while booting wont get me to CWM
    2. holding reset button then plug otg = mask loader mode, blue led still on
    3. plug otg then holding reset button = rock loader mode, blue led still on
    4. Most of the time, I flash my FW succesfully whether using finless flashtool or RKbatchtool, in loader mode and mask mode wont be any different.
    5. I can use 4.2 partition parameter for finless 2.1 and 1.7 but not vice versa, simply bigger partition for smaller img wont be a problem and would be a problem if smaller partition for bigger img.
    6. I tried the bootloader combination between 1.22 and 1.16 and it give the same result above. Is there any newer bootloader?

So please Freaktab users and developer, Finless Bob and Leolas, give me your help to revive my mk808b with wifi and bluetooth, not just the stick.
And if someone has the stock mk808b clone FW please upload it, i would love to try it.
    Please help...

    PS. Sorry for my english.

    PS. Sorry for my english.
Dont worry about your english, is a way better than mine

    Lets try some things:

    Put the sdcard off.

Install 1.7 v1 finless rom with the finless rom flash tool, first rease idb(erase nand) after it will end the flash, wait 5 minutes to unplugg the otg usb cable.

Feed the stick using the OTG port instead or power usb port.

Try to feed it with other power supply and if you have some other usb wires try it too.

I hope it works, but if it don't work and you have your stock rom cwm backup yet, upload it to some place so i can make the img for you.

If your cwm backup have personal data on it send me by pm the link.

Is very rare your problem, I think first thatit is a problem with the nand chip, but if you can install the mk808b "original" on it and it boots normally, then, the problem must be in your wifi chipset, lets cross fingers and wait that it is a software problem and not an hardware problem.

    Other idea:
Maybe your power supply have not enough power when try to feed wifi-bt chipset?

I always erase the IDB to get fresh flash and switching partition paramater, and after successful flash it always rebooting, so it's still had the cable in otg port. Now after you mentioned it I just realize after flashing it will boot to recovery first (if it boot), in original mk808b recovery it will format data partition and sdcard, in MK808B-CWM it just boot to CWM for the first time and waiting for my command. Is that normal?

I have 3 different power supplies, one of them is an ipad charger which I believe is the most stable with 2.1A output. Still get above result.

Thank you Leolas, I'll PM you the link to my CWM backup, it takes me 4 hrs to upload it (poor connection). FYI, I made the stock backup using MK808B-MT-CWM and I've tried to restore it with MK808B-CWM which the only cwm could boot (if I install the MT it will stuck at 2 penguins). Restore went OK but it give me the 2 penguins.
Is it possible that my stock bootloader is different with finless's? and does the bootloader could verify the kernel+recovery which should boot or not? I feel it so strange to have this problem, it's like the stick want to be original mk808b with mediatek chipset.

I really appreciate your help Leolas.

One suggestion, after erase IDB. Allways install the stock recovery for first time, let it format data and sdcard, and then, after this you can install the cwm recovery. By itself cwm recovery seems not be capable to format the sdcard in fat32
This sound bad, if this steps dont work, The only thing that have some sense for me is each time that WiFi-BT gets active, the stick get a hang.
If someone have the stock rom or you can contact with the seller it can help, or when i will have your stock backup repack it how the stock rom.

Some time working in your cwm backup file, first thing I did is erase data and cache tars to preserve your personal data. And then I build a rom with your backup. Only a problem, we cant access your original bootloader&parameter file this things are not saved in a cwm backup. So we will use the bob finless 2.1, the best would be to use the original bootloader, but we cant access to it so we must use this one, at least we know that they work in your stick(not wifi or BT, but at least it boots). We don't have access to the original recovery.img too, so i use the cwm recovery made by fun (Maybe we will have problems to format the internal sdcard, but we deal with it latter).
Install it using the tool that comes with Bob rom, croos the fingers and lets see if it work:

            Thanks a lot Leolas,
I'm downloading it, I forgot to upload the recovery dump after installing CWM, I have it in another folder, can I flash it directly with finless flash tool? can I flash kernel.img and recovery.img from cwm backup directly using finless tool? are they in the same file system? Does the kernel access the wifi+bt chip on boot, so if it failed to respond the boot will stuck?
I tried other 2 stock FW from chinese website I found, both boot to android but failed to turn on the wifi+bt, maybe it's for original mk808b.

            Thanks again Leolas.

The rom I uploaded is the exact one you had in your backup, is your stock rom, if it works well with your wifi-bt, the we can mod it a little after, but lets try to test if it works first.

I'm sorry Leolas, your uploaded files failed to boot my mk808b, it's stuck on 2 penguins.
I tried some stock FW from vondroid, most of them using rkbatchtool to flash, the frustating thing is that I am able to flash using rkbatchtool for stock mk808b original but always failed to flash stock mk808b clone#1 and clone#2, both failed at IDB download. Changing the usb cables and even changing the PC and laptop still giving me a same result. What is the root of my stick problem?
Does the wifi+bt chipset also booting when the android boot? does the kernel checks the wifi+bt chipset? Why it boot to android using original kernel+recovery but stuck when using its clone kernel+recovery which contain proper driver for the wifi+bt chip? It's really annoy me

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help Leolas.

You can use wendal tool to unpack the update.img in the individual img files.
Only when you flash your stock kernel, you got 2 pinguins.
Try 1 thing please, flash the rom i uploaded from you with the mk808b(rk903) stock kernel, you can find it in finless 2.1 mk808b rom. And tell me if it boots.

i had exactly the same problem with my sunvel clone V2 . i could successfuly flash any other 808 or 808b rom but not the one i needed did some research and found that the imito mx1/2 uses the same wireless chip tried flashing BOBS mx 1.7 rom that failed aswell then recently tried his new mx V2.0 bingo happy days again rom works a treat runs a little hot so underclocked it to 1.5 now alls well . try it hopefully it will work for you too.

I've tried it, it boots to boot animation which never ends, original kernel +original recovery +clone 's system =boot loop.

Hi afgok, could you give me the details? Does finless 2.0 for imito mx is what you mean for reviving my mk808b stick? I'll try it as soon as I get my laptop. Please tell me more about your experience.

This is what I did dont know if flashing original firmware first makes any diffrence but its what I did

first I download and flash latest firmware for mx1/2 from geekbuying

                        http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?x8f02u2ga4c34rp Download link [...]

After flash is finished wait 5 minutes before unplugging power.
Connect to TV power on check if it boots OK (first boot may take 5 minutes)

If everything ok download and flash finless bob rom from this thread

Thanks Afgok, I tried to instal imito finless 2.0 only and it revive my stick+wifi but not the bluetooth, I'm not installing the one from geekbuying since I do flash format, I believe it delete all previous rom installed in the nand. Does your bluetooth working well? Since the hardware is the same maybe I'll start trying mk802iiis rom too. Do you have any suggested rom for our wierd mk808b?
                          Thanx.
