I am a new member and I need help understanding how to root my MXQ Android TV Box.

As the topic says I have been trying to root my android TV box without any success. I have tried non computer root apps like KIng Root with no success. I bought a usb cord to connect my android tv box to my former windows computer and it didn't work. I have now LInux on this computer and it still won't see the device. Is there a way to root my android tv box? I only want to root it to change the internal storage to SD card. Thanks.

Dear blinky, your link goes to a thread with amlogic s802/s89 info
The user stated : his device is Amlogic s805

Does your MXQ have a red stripe ? or is it full black box ?
note: the red stripe has two version, with different wifi chips

Yes I no mate, The EZ root update ZIP for s802 also works on some s805 devices http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...logic-s805-box
The user confirms it worked on his s805 box on post 15

Ohh... i did not know that...that's cool (blinky)

                    Hmm..
As alternative option...if you bought the s805, just to run kodi
There's a big chance that your device is libreelec compatible
note: libreelec can run from the sdcard on most devices...as test or just to dualboot (without losing android on nand)

Blinky has anyone reported the update to cause the screen to flicker uncontrollably and then go into what appears to be snow? I had to install the zip twice because of it.

Iv not had this problem myself but after a bit of googling this can happen after installing an update (Root zip is seen by the box as a update)

If the problem come's back,,Try this see if it helps

Go into settings / About device.

Find "Build number" and click on it 6 time's fast

You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer"

Go back to Home Screen, and then go back to Settings, You will now see the "Developer Options"

Now go to Developer options / Drawing Section or Rendering Section / Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays"

                            Blinky

Blinky that didn't work. It has returned to being filled with white noise aka snow. Is there another ez root zip out there that I can use that won't cause this problem?
