I'm not 100% sure about this but I believe the problem is there is no software/drivers supporting optical drives for android.

It can work, what thou need is Kernel Modules to support the CD Drive.
Without it no go.
What Android Version you running ?

Why don't you share your computers DVD drive? Its simple and works,at least for xbmc

Maybe if Google ever really gets serious about internet TV (and they seem to be going that direction) we'll see optical drive support in android.
