adb via usb, coowell v5 and other amlogic 905s

I have several recent amlogic sticks (mk809IV pro, coowell v5, mk808b pro), and none of them will connect over the usb port using adb. I can get abd connection via wifi, but not the OTG usb port.

    Anyone seen this?

Under linux I briefly get a idVendor:idProduct listing in lsusb, but it goes away as soon as the system fully boots. Same hardware (mk808b pro) with custom firmware works fine.

Just bumping this up again. I've tried everything I can find, but it's persistently dropping the connection as soon as the android OS fully boots. Bought units from a couple different vendors, all have the same behavior. See dmesg below:

    [ 1963.846206] usb 2-1.4: new high-speed USB device number 7 using ehci-pci
    [ 1963.940773] usb 2-1.4: New USB device found, idVendor=1b8e, idProduct=c003
    [ 1963.940780] usb 2-1.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
    [ 2004.862381] usb 2-1.4: USB disconnect, device number 7
