Although Pipo has not updated their official firmware, a potentially newer firmware was submitted to me by Freaktab user geofferyh that we think may be an update to the original ROM. Try it and see if there is improvement.
This ROM is:

Rooted
Debloated
init.d support
Busybox support
2, 4, 6 or 8 gb user app space

Maybe I have missed something recently, but I am not aware of a PiPo U1 Utimate tablet? And, I have no information that it has RK3188 CPU? The PiPo products listing of U-Series tablets only features the Ultra-U1 (UpU1) and Ultra-U1 Pro (U1 Pro) and both have RK3066 CPU.

So obviously late to the party with this Tablet.
Bought it for the wife last year and was pure stock ( she doesn't like me tinkering with her stuff )

Since then bought her a new tab and took this over.

Found this wonderful site, the ROM, and CWM recovery.

1. The ROM works perfect, no hiccups whatsoever, and battery life is much improved!!
2. Root access and Superuser have had no issues with any of my apps that require it.
3. CWM recovery works great and again no hiccups there.

Does anyone know if this tablet will ever receive a 4.2 update of any kind?
or is 4.1.1 the best it's gonna get?

I've done many custom themes and ROM installs on phones ( Droid 1 , Bionic , Galaxy Nexus )
so I'm pretty savvy in my knowledge of installing / wiping / etc.

But this has me vexxed. I have a zip file with some apps and a boot animation for my custom theme.
Works perfect on phones , but only partially works on the tablet. Hangouts and Twitter won't install.
Pandora and my wallpaper app do install. Boot animation installs and works , but isn't sized properly for this screen.

Any one got potential insight as to why only half the apps install?

have you tried installing Twitter and Hangouts from Google Play Store? You may just have trouble side loading those apps for some reason. I think they are free, so give that a try.

Good day sir! I just flashed this rom successfully but i'm a having trouble because after i flash it and booted, it has 2 screens just like in nintendo ds/3ds LoL... My last rom was your also the Rileyrom 1.1f...

No, this is for the original Ultimate U1...not the U1 Pro. I guess I haven't done a ROM for the U1 Pro yet...so I'll work on that. Stay Tuned.

Pipo Roms

Thank you so much for all you hard work i am currently a retailer of pipo product and they extends the quality of my devices 100 fold i definitely have to donate to you. question from you roms though i realise you use the Chinese stock to create it do you need the English version stock roms as i have access to them or you can even get them from www.pipo.cn/en. And is there any way you can make it possible to move apps to the actual external sd card and remove the partition pipo does with the nand flash and allow the full 16gb to be internal memory. this would definately put the device a cut above other devices. I am trying to get the company to do this but its like pulling teeth

I'm afraid that's how Rockchip organizes their SDK, so unless they change something...we are pretty well stuck with the way it is.

I try to use the English version whenever I can...but sometimes there is only a Chinese version available on some releases. I just go with whatever is available. I have found that Pipo isn't very good about keeping their site up to date, many times a firmware is done for several days before you find the link on their site. For instance, I have reports that a new M7 firmware was released yesterday...but it still doesn't appear on their site. (I have a link to it, though...from a user).

On some of these older 3066 tablets that Pipo doesn't produce anymore, it would be great if we could get the sources so we can keep making updates. I would love to put Android 4.2.2 on some of these tablets. I personally own an M5...and it needs an update (not that there is anything wrong with the current firmware, but some of us like to keep the latest Android on our devices...especially if we have other devices with 4.2.2 on them).

Right now I'm downloading an update for the M7 Pro, released yesterday...but I don't know if it English or Chinese...it isn't labeled.

A user sent me the link to it...I'm not sure where people are finding these releases before Pipo even puts them on their site.

Just installed this rom for my PiPo U1. I tried several roms, but so far I'm not happy enough with them (all from the start of 2013 but with the lack of support). I hope this one will be better! I will report back after a few days with my findings.
