Any launchers that work with live wallpapers? Do they cause too much strain on box?

Yes... most do...
Only device/rom I know that doesn't support live wallpapers/widgets is RemixOs

A real eye candy launcher is the one that comes with CyanogenMod, supporting full theme's

Are you planning to buy a android box? or do you have a android box?
*Some device are poorly cooled...then its not wise to run live wallpapers
**Some wallpapers/launchers are heavy on the Ram...So avoid it...running it on 1gb ram versions
But in most cases...Just try some...and learn what you like...and what runs best (or Not) on your system
