Okay, Live Channels is now working...and the problem wasn't at all what I thought. Apparently, Google added a "feature" in v1.09.419 that hides the Live Channels app in the launcher if there are no channel sources available. This is a horrible UI design, which make discoverability near impossible, but that's reality for now. What's really odd is that in v1.10.596 they even started ignoring the movie trailer channel provided in Google Movies & TV for Android 6.0 and later. When you upgraded from v1.09.419 the app would just DISAPPEAR from the launcher and the Google Play Store. Really, Google?!

Anyway, the workaround is to install another channel source like Haystack TV, Pluto TV, Bloomberg TV or the Weather Network TV. Once you do that, the Live Channels app will magically reappear.

Note: I had been experimenting with earlier versions of the Live Channels app in previous releases. To get the latest one for Android TV 5.1, grab the TVStock burn package or updater now.

UPDATE: I just refreshed today's TVStock builds with the SystemUI app from the Nexus Player (Fugu), which is more appropriate for Android TV. No more distracting status bar with tons of notifications.

Okay, burn packages and updates are now posted with permissions to avoid this Kodi download issue as well as a new fix for the Android TV Remote Service. In the process, I deodexed the ROM and updated with today's Open GApps build.

(Now if I can only get Live Channels working, we'll be pretty much on par with the Marshmallow release.)

I fixed the problem with the Kodi install on the Google Play Store and will post an update soon. Just trying to fix a couple other things while I'm at it.

You can install it from the Update&Backup app (hit Select button, pick the ZIP file, then click Update), the stock recovery (Apply update from EXT), or TWRP (Install button, select source, select ZIP file). While it's called an OTA Update by Google, we don't have an OTA server and so you've got to install it manually.

No, that's an Amlogic S905X (p212), so you'd have to use this custom ROM for the Mini M8S II or Beelink Mini MX3 II. I'm not sure what wireless chipset they're using, and my old T95N-G2 (S905) was definitely using a different remote control, so some updates after the flash may be necessary to get those working. Also, all the boxes I currently have come with optical TOSLINK SPDIF, as that's what the Amlogic reference boards have.

or do you have a rom compatible with a device with AV output?

Thanks in advance for your answer

Yeah, I just got an "[0x10105002]Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read initialize status/USB Control setup error" trying to flash a QuickPlay MXQ Pro. This rom is looking for a device ID of "p200_G2" and these are just "p200", which I believe is the problem. The OTA updater also failed for that reason, but I didn't try with the device ID assertion removed.

UPDATE: I removed the device ID assertion and tried the OTA updater, and it bricked right after writing the bootloader. Can't even resurrect it with the OEM burn package, so this box is now junk. (Arguably, it already was junk, but it's now completely useless.)

UPDATE: The MXQ Pro was resurrected by shorting pins 29 & 30 on the DRAM, and it's back up and running with an OEM burn package flash.

Did you try the burn package with USB Burning Tool? The OTA updater is intended for incremental builds, and so I do some assertions at the beginning to ensure I'm on the expected platform. I'm probably being a little too restrictive, but you can easily work around that by doing the full flash with the burn package.
