How hard is it to make a Custom Rom ?

Hi everyone,

I fully understand how busy Finless & Strauzo are, so I wondered how hard it would be to make a Custom Rom myself? I used the fool proof "Bake a Rom" on Modoco for my phone but this stuff is much deeper

Can anyone point me in the right direction for things I would need,? (including a fool proof guide)

WHY you ask?

The objective is to try and make a simple rom that has XBMC with plugins / channels included and maybe even SkyGo if I can figure out a way to get it working.

I have the XBMC sorted and want to add it to a rom so my friends (and anyone else interested) can just flash it and then off they go.

I would really appreciate any help you guys can give

You pretty much have 2 options: customize an existing rom (ie. Finless customizes/improves the Tronsmart factory rom's) or make your own from scratch. There's alot of information and tools on the freaktab forums for ripping apart an existing rom and customizing it. Making your own from scratch is a whole other beast. Since there is no official rk3188 kernel sources, it's a bit harder to make happen without ALOT of tinkering and experimentation. But even without kernel sources, you can use some of the prebuilt stuff and build a rom around it (like AOSP, AOKP, CyanogenMod). Personally, I have my own kernel I've built and have an initial CWM recovery and CM10.1.1 rom that I'm tweaking for public release at some point and I use it for XBMC too (XAF external player version and playing with libstagefright builds). There are numerous guides on the 'net that will help you with building a rom. But honestly, there's no cut and dry easy guide to making your own kernel/rom especially for these AMP's. It's a learning process. G'luck!

Thank you for replying... I tried to open the .img file, but no luck... I wanted to add xbmc and skygo to the stock rom as they are not rooted...

That failed, I could not even open the file lol

I have a lot of respect for those who make roms, its an art... after a little google I have decided to pass, I will no doubt do more harm than good lol

I might just wait for your rom to be released,Will you be including XBMC with it loaded up and ready to go?
