Flash MXIII-G firmware to GooBang Doo XB-I?

I have a Tronfy MXIII-G box running the latest firmware (108L1, Android 5.1) and would like to know if it's possible to flash it to my other box, GooBang Doo XB-I. As far as I can tell, the hardware is almost identical. They are both Amlogic S812's, same chipset, same GPU, same linux kernel (3.10.33), etc. The main difference is the board. The MXIII-G has a Netxeon, and the GooBang has a bcm4335.

My goal is to get the GooBang Doo from android 4.4.2 to a later version of Android...And while Tronfy has offered an OTA update in the past...I'm not holding my breath for GooBang to do the same.

I'm willing to be a guinea pig here for any of you pros out there. I don't mind if I brick my GooBang Doo, these boxes are cheap and I've got expendable income should I need a replacement. Obviously, I'd like to back up the GooBang Doo's Stock firmware if possible, but I can't seem to find a download online.

    Let's get started, any takers?

Did you try to flash your XB-I? I am wanting to do the same thing. I contacted Goobang Doo for the firmware so I can install the latest version of Kodi and they told me its not possible and to use a different streaming app... Great customer service

I'm not going to try anything until I can find the stock GooBang Doo ROM. And I'm guessing that someone's going to have to tweak the MXIII-G firmware a little as well. So I'm still waiting on one of my guru buddies to take a look at it. He's very busy building other custom ROM's right now.

I posted here hoping someone had already been working on something like this. We'll wait and see.

Update> Looking at the products on GooBang Doo's web site, it seems they have an MXIII box as well. I'm wondering who's the knockoff/re-brand here. This might be easier than we think.

I asked Goobang Doo to send me the stock firmware for the XB-I and they sent me instructions and links to a XB-I 5.1 firmware upgrade.

        Video Instructions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByN...ew?usp=sharing
        Firmware Upgrade: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0G...ew?usp=sharing
        Upgrade Tool: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bwy...ew?usp=sharing

I have not tried it yet but i'm going to as soon as I get a male to male usb cable.

I figured their "technician" was full of beans. I got the typical response from them as well. HI there,

          "Thanks for your contacting.
Regards your question, sorry that the version of the box can not be updated.
I have contacted with our technician about the how to update the Android OS.but unfortunately they told me that most of the Android TV box in the market can't update its OS, including ours. because box is designed to locked.

So, we suggest that you can use different apps for streaming.

You understanding will be much appreciate!"

Thanks for your persistence, I'll give it a shot.

The USB tool provided is the same as provided for other similar models. So I'm guessing the SD tool is the same. Just google Amlogic BootCardMaker. you'll find it

I got that same email haha.

After attempting to update the box, it turns out the firmware is still android 4.4.2. However it all works so now we have a backup to try other 5.1 firmwares. The part that was unclear in the instructions was when to connect the box and reset. I got it to work by:
              1. Click start on the USB Burning Tool
              2. Plug the usb into the computer and box.
              3. Hold the reset button, then plug the power in. Continue to hold the reset button until the Goobang Doo disappears to a black screen and release reset button.

It's still a newer version than I had before so it's an upgrade for me at least

No. I'm still trying to get TWRP or CWM to work on it first. I want a proper backup and a way to restore...just in case. But, it's also looking like a bcm4335 firmware might be a better option. Something like the M8S.

I don't know if any of this is gonna work. The mainboards are different. If I can get TWRP to load up, and find the Goo Bang Doo original firmware, I'll try. I'm fairly confident I can recover from a brick, but I need to have all the tools necessary first. Give me some time, this isn't really a high priority on my list of things to do right now. lol

If you don't mind me asking, which one? That's a start in the right direction. I think there was a little bit of 3rd party development for those than the Goo Bang Doo (which has none) lol.
