I'm not sure if i'm in the correct forum or not, please excuse me if not and let me know.
I would like to 'root' this device but I don't know how. I'm asking for help What software
should I use and what should I be aware of when I do it.

Welcome to Freaktab!
Normally the most Android TV Boxes are rooted.
Please check this first, in the Playstore you can find Apps like #RootChecker to do this.
If the Box are not Rooted it would be easy to Install a Custom Rom you can find here on the Forum to the Box.
A Custom Firmware will also enhance your Box in most cases.
