    help with MX box

    hello guys,
i have been given an android box by a friend, he told me the firmware needs updating as the latest version of kodi can't be installed on it at present.
i'm an old dude & know nothing about these boxes but i would like to learn.
the box is black, has MX printed on the top of it, 4 usb ports, 1 HDMI port, 1SPDIF port, 1 AV port, 1 ethernet port, 1 SD/MMC slot (with an 8GB card in it) and of course a port for the power supply.
there are 2 sticky labels on the bottom of the box, one says S22, the other says c4:4e:ac:09:f8:32
there is a remote control with the box but i have been told it is not the original, also a bluetooth keyboard & dongle.
i hope i have provided enough info, if not, please tell me anything i have missed out.
could anyone assist me in updating it please?
i watched a youtube video on a "toothpick" method of resetting the box but i have no clue where to get the correct firmware and apply to the box.
    thanks for reading.

Until You know who manufactured this box there is no way to tell what firmware will fit. Maybe some pictures of this box?
Install CPU-Z and get all info from this app.

CPU-Z VALIDATOR is the world-recognized standard for system analysis & performance validation

Architecture ARM Cortex and revision is not enough info about what CPU You really have inside.
MBX is used by many chinese manufactures, mine on S812 is also flagged as MBX.
The MX on box is more significant. Can You include /system/build.prop here?

I think that this is CMX box like above. Can You also check android settings, tab "about device" or "about mediabox"?
There is also "system update" which in theory should give You the newest firmware for specific device, but it works weird for many chinese boxes.
To get build.prop file it is best to download and install Total Commander, then enter root folder and then system folder. I think You don't have to have root to copy build.prop to pendrive/sdcard but i can be wrong.
