Temptation got the better of me and tried to flash a few ATV roms, ended up with no wifi. (even after researching).
Eventually found a Russian thread with a few roms. Perhaps the more talented can extract the wifi drivers if they have time.
For everyone else with a similar box, wifi and the remote work.
