    Flash PiPo M9 from Debian

    Ladies & Gents,

I am wanting to flash my M9 and get root. I have been searching the web for instructions on how to flash it from Debian Linux but there are very few links with instructions. I have looked at this one but it is quite dated
Short guide on how to root an android phone under ubuntu 11.10 Actors: Superoneclick , Samsung Galaxy i5800 , xubuntu 11.10 I'm  posting...

and from 2011 and using an old version of ubuntu.

It also is using Superoneclick which is obsolete as it dose not work on android after v2.3 if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have a more up to date set of instructions for flashing from Linux, preferably Debian Jessie?

      Flash PiPo M9 from Debian

That is an interesting solution. I've never tried it. I run Windows 7 as primary and my Linux stuff in a VM. Just the opposite from this plan. If you can get the USB drivers installed properly, it should work.

Keep us posted on how it works for you.

It is a really easy easy to use and well done tool, but from linux we can't erase IDB nor flash parameter file

Yes I use it, with this one you can flash everything except bootloader and parameter file.

Do I need to be able to flash my bootloader? I have read that some bootloaders need to be unlocked before the device can be rooted.

Or the parameter file? I do not know what this file is or what is dose. Could someone please explain?

I have flashed a couple of plastic box routers with dd-wrt before, but flashing a tablet/phone is new to me. From what I can see the process is not the same and is more complicated. I would really like to get my head around the process before I jump. Old dogs can learn new tricks, it just takes us longer.

How do I determined which pc-board my M9 has? I don't want to flash with a rom that will not work with it.

I have not found a lot of info on the web about PiPo tablets, hence the question above. I don't want to make a misstep and brick my tablet.

              Thanks.

With Rockchip devices, you don't need to flash the boot loader file...that's why it is unchecked, by default in the flash tool. It is only there for the unusual chance that you hard brick the device and you have to reset the NAND by jumping some pins...which erases the boot loader.

The parameter tells the Flash Tool how much space to allocate for each of the img files...and for app storage space and internal NAND memory. My ROMs come with several different parameter files, so you can choose how much app storage space you want...which takes away internal SD storage space.

                Hope that helps.

I just uploaded a new M9 ROM today. Inside it, there is a First Time User's Guide which will cover the Flash Procedure in detail.

Well apparently I do not understand how to use the rkflashkit correctly. I have installed it and it seams to launch and run ok. I connected the M9 up via usb, turned off usb-debugging, but it is not detecting any devices. I have tried with mass storage turned on and with it turned off, both with the same result. Yes I am using the usb cable that came with it.

I do have an entry in lsusb for the device Bus 002 Device 009: ID 2207:0000

So I must be doing something wrong. Any idea what?

                    Flash PiPo M9 from Debian

All of a sudden I'm having the same kind of problem with my M8 Pro.

Until now, whenever I plug the device in, it would go ahead an recognize the tablet as a mass storage device.

After this last ROM...I had to go into the advanced USB settings on the tablet and change it from Media Device to a Mass Storage device manually. Then I was able to get the pc to recognize it.

Pipo has changed the default setting in the firmware.

I have also changed the build.prop to get the tablet to think it is a Samsung device to open more apps in Google Play Store. This is causing the PC to see a different device and it fumbles around with loading the appropriate driver. I may go back to leaving that entry alone in the build.prop.

For completeness, the rkflashtool does seam to be able to flash the m9

the key is getting the m9 booted to flash mode

in another thread by Rileyrom, Randy posted instructions for rebooting different pipo tablets to flash mode.

for the m9 it is done

                        M7pro U8 M8pro M9 M9pro(android4.2.2)ress the “ESC“&“power” key for a few seconds,no need of pressing reset key.

                        Thanks Randy

where do these restrictions come from: linux, current rkflashtool implementation or somewhere else? Inability to flash parameter file and erase NAND are the only things what make me use windows which I hadn't touched for a several years.

At this day, it's possible to flash parameter file with rkflashtool (5.0 and 5.1 on sourceforge) :
                            Code:
                            ./rkflashtool w 0x0 0x2 < parameter

And i suspect than erase IDB, it's too possible - but i'm not sure :
                            Code:
                            ./rkflashtool e 0x00 0x2000
The README file quote : "rkflashtool e offset size erase flash (fill with 0xff)"
