My Android Mini-PC Cooling Mods - Pictures.

Just figured I'd finally post pics of some of the mods I've done to a few sticks. None of these are the tronsmart mk908 I've been working with on here, but the principles would of course apply to a variety of sticks.

    So here you go.

This is my favorite. It's a UG802 with a laptop heatsink and fan (heat transfer pad between heatsink and cpu), usb network, an actual antenna, and of course the usb hub also onboard. This thing works awesome. I wish the fan was a bit quieter but meh... I can unplug it if I want to. I know there can be issues running the fan from the stick's power but I have had none. This one also has an overclocked kernel installed.

This is a Zeals UG802 with a 12v AMD Socket A style fan running on 5volts from the powered hub there. This one is running ubuntu as the android offerings for this stick seem to be somewhat crappy, or at least they were last I checked. You can see my lovely 2 power supply combination there also. This one runs very quietly but the fan definitely spins fast enough to dissipate all the heat. I use thermal transfer compound between the heatsink and the tv stick - these gk802's have a metal case with a heat transfer pad that touches the processor so cooling the case can work just fine. The hub also has sound, video, and lan. The sound and lan work, but haven't had any luck with the vga, which I assumed would be the case.

This guy is an mk802+ as I recall. The heatsink came from a pc motherboard chipset. There is a thermal transfer pad between the heatsink and cpu, and as you can see I've nicely attached it with zip ties. Gets a little warm but nowhere near how hot the stick was getting before. Obviously this mod runs very very quietly.

This is a fan and small heatsink that I ripped off a larger assembly from a laptop. Again, thermal paste between the fan unit and tv stick and good old zip ties. Runs off usb 5v power. Works surprisingly well.

And lastly I recently acquired 3 of these 5v heat pumps. They have heatsinks included and work just fine as-is. A fan could easily be attached. The bottom side does get quite cold when running it on a 2amp 5v adapter. I'd like to do a few mods on some other sticks with these... maybe my mk908!

Anyway, hope you all like the photos, and good luck to others who are modding their devices for cooling!

Really most of these sticks could easily get away with a passive solution... I just like to go overboard.

Wow, you have been busy. Well done.

I think we really do need that case/cooling mod forum Finless was considering, a while back.

really nice mod but you should put a heatsink to the wifi chip too cause it really gets hot and it can lead to wifi disconnections.

Ok Thanks, i will put one heatsink to wifi chip. But there is a problem. I stick heatsinks to the chip with silicone gun but when it gets really hot silicone becomes liquider How could i stick them to the chips?

I use Graphene to transfer the heat to the heatsink and then use silicone as glue.

This is the type of glue: http://www.amazon.ca/Amazing-All-Pur...=silicone+glue

This is my heatsink on MK908:

or you can try with heat transfer tape. search on **** and you will find it. its really cheap. 1$ for more than you can use on 10 minipc

edit: well its a little bit more expensive than 1$ but still cheap

                      check this link http://www.****.com/itm/SEKISUI-5760-Thermal-Adhesive-Tape-Double-Sided-8-x1-3-Strips-/151051030318?pt=US_Thermal_Compounds_Supplies&hash =item232b57cf2e

You can also buy thermal transfer adhesive, or make your own with 2 parts thermal paste and 1 part epoxy/hardcore glue of some sort. Or so I've heard. I currently use either regular thermal paste and a means of holding the heatsink down tight or a heat transfer pad.. similar to the tape being referred to but maybe thicker and non-adhesive. I think I'll check **** for some thermal adhesive just to see what it actually costs. The main thing is that you want nothing interfering with heat reaching the heatsink. So whatever you use must transfer heat well.

the thermal tape does transfer heat correctly because it is designed to be used on heatsinks for the chipsets, and is really thin. i have used it many times on different chips and it always works

Cool, for sure. Wasn't meaning to hate on the tape!
