S95 Telos powering - is it suppose to be like this?

    Hi,
I got S95 Telos in bricked state without power adapter. I found replacement, 12v 2A and connector fits ok. When power up, only tronsmart logo appear for couple seconds and then shuts down, no signal on TV but blue led is still light. I found stock rom and flash it with usb burning tool, everything went well, got "success" after 4 minutes approximately.
Powering up again, logo for couple of seconds then shuts down, blue led light, all the same as before.
Found another rom, RemixOS, flash it, everything ok. Power up, logo appear, but this time Remix, shuts down after couple of seconds, again.
I thought that maybe emmc chip is corrupted, but then it won't accept flashing, right?
I was thinking, when flashing with PC and male to male usb cable, the device is powering only from usb, not from ac adapter. Then I tried to powering the device with mobile phone adapter, 5v 2a, male to male usb cable to otg port on device, and guess what, it works!
Logo appear, then the system loaded and everything is good.
My question, is it ok to use device like this, and why it won't boot with AC power adapter?

    Thanks.

    Hi ,

i think you used the wrong Power adapter , maybe your Box only needs 5V/2A , most of the

work with USB Power support . I already saw it by another User .

    good luck

      Hello @Nebojsa;

Yes, the S95 Telos needs 12V from Power Supply cause it has a Build in Sata Connector.
I think the 12V Power Supply is not good. You need 12V DC / 3A.
      Then all will Work well.

Below the DC port on device it's written 12V 2A, so I think that power supply is ok. Adapter work well on other device, I tried another adapter and it's the same, not working. Very strange...
I thought that device draw less power when no sata hdd is connected (haven't connect any drive). I would understand if device shuts down if sata is connected, but with no hdd...
It's strange that device is working with 5V 2A, and not with 12V 2A...

          No, it is not Strange.
If something can go wrong it will.
Even if on the Power Supply Stands it can Deliver 2A it did not mean it will.
What I want to say is, it can happen that the Device will deliver 2A but the Voltage will drop to 10 Volt DC for Example.
This will and can cause Problems on the Device.
Also, why will it Work with 5V / 2A on the Burning Port?
I think that the PSU with 5V and 2A works better than the 12V / 2A you have.
          Just my 2 Cents.

            It could be, indeed...
I will try to find another adapter 12V 3A and try with it.
I want to say, I did not even know that box will work if I power it with usb, didn't know even that is a possibility, I almost gave up.

I just tried with universal laptop adapter, it has voltage regulation from 12v to 24v, 4.5A.
Now it's stays on a little bit longer, but shuts down again after 30-45 seconds.
Is it safe to try with 15v? Maybe if it have voltage drops, if I put 15v it drops to 12v-13v?

Yes, it can Work up to 15V.
Maybe we have a Problem or defect on the Voltage Regulator.

Just tried with 15v, it stayed on about 3-4 minutes and shuts down.
Found picture of board on the net, it have "Big capacitor for DC-in". Maybe it is faulty?

Yes, that could be absolutely possible.
Maybe you can change it if it is not too small.

I will try to change it, I have experience with changing capacitors on power supplies, etc...

I just disassembled the box, the capacitor is SMD 100uf/10v.

I have ESR meter (for checking capacitors). On the board there is 4 more identical capacitors, 100uf/10V. I check them all and all have identical values, so I think that all of them are in good condition and working. I will change that one next to the DC port anyway but I think that is not the problem.

According to Tronsmart, the original power adapter is 12V / 2A.
Most likely your unit is defect (hardware).
But dont spend too much time into fixing this, since this Tronsmart box is very poor quality and poor firmware. I do not recommend it at all.
Rather buy a new Android TV box such as the M8S PRO box from $53

If it works using the 5v/2a cable from the USB port then just use it like that.

Whilst a box may have a specific power adapter, in the case 12v/2a, then this is the maximum draw.

It's only when you exceed the draw required, such as plugging in a SATA drive that it may fall over.

I have a few boxes that use 5v/2a ac but I have found that I can actually run them directly from a laptop USB 2.0 port, where the actual power output from the port is minimal.
