Powering MK808 with 10port powered USB hub 5v 3A power adapter

    Hi All,
Just to share that i recently found out the mk808 can be powered up using just the power supply from my 10port powered usb hub.
The power supply is 5V 3A used to power the hub.
Hub is connect to the normal size USB connector on the mk808.
There is no need to connect the stock power supply to the mini usb on the mk808.
with this arrangement i connected 2nos. flash drives, 2nos.-2.5" external hdd, rc11 flymouse, a 12v 125x125mm USB Fan and a usb2ethernet adapter to the hub.
All working perfectly for the last few weeks.
I also think it should work on mk808b and even mk908 or other duo core and quad core tv sticks since the power requirements are similar.
If 5V 3A is not enough due to higher power needs probably a 5v 4A or 5v 5A power adapter will work.

The 5v 3A power adapter link is
      http://www.****.com/itm/AC-Converter...-/221223157523

      The 10port hub link is
      http://www.****.com/itm/10-Port-USB-...-/350848547553

I am not using the power adapter that comes together with the hub because it is only 5v 1A.

        Thank you for the links...
What port number are you connecting the MK808 to?
Are you using USB-A Male to USB-A Male cable, like this:

I didn't see any other ports on the hub.
        Interesting...

The power hub comes with the cable for connecting. It is type A male to type B male. on the hub there is a type B female on one end next to the dc jack.

I don't think the adapter you use to power the hub makes any difference to the power output/amperage of the USB ports, which are set at a standard of 5V and 500ma max, as I understand it. Am I misunderstanding what you mean?

I never said there is any power output/amperage differences in each usb port.
All i am saying is there is no need to use two power adapters. That is, one for the mk808 and another for the powered usb hub when i use the 5v 3A adapter.
Previously, i was using the stock power adapter(5v 2A) for the mk808 and the power adapter that comes with the usb hub(5v 1A), but the mk808 was never able to connect/detect my 2.5" external hdd.
Now with just one 5v3A adapter, i am connecting 7 devices as listed in my first post and all had been working perfectly for the past few weeks.
I guess if you need to connect more than 7 devices, the 5v 3A may not be sufficient. So may need 5v 4A or 5V 5A depending on whether the devices are self powered(like 3.5" external hdd) or not self powered(like 2.5" external hdd)

Hmm interesting. I think the circuitry of the USB connector would limit the power supplied to the MK808 to 500ma though (as the poster above was implying). Strange that it seems to work as good as the 5v 2a connector + the benefits of extra usb ports. I might actually give this a go. I soldered in a connector from a 5v 3a PS I found lying around, but it still seems to be flakey..

Probably due to your PS being old and the voltage and amperage output quality is NOT stable.
It seem these tv sticks are quite sensitive to voltage fluctuation and will behave strangely eg sudden freezing of mouse, no video output to tv, keep mounting/unmounting usb devices etc.
These were some of the strange behaviour i experienced while using two PS adapter(5v2A and 5V1A) previously.
Now, everything is running smoothly with the new 5V3A and 10port hub.
Why is it so I don't really know.
I only hope it will continue running smoothly for months if not years.

I can confirm that this works good with a 7-port 5v/4a belkin hub that I had lying around.. too bad I didn't look for it first before ordering the one you used OP lol.

                    Cheers.

Glad that it works for you too.
I suppose the number of ports in the usb hub is not the key factor. It is the power adapter that is key and must be at least 5V 3A/4A/5A and of stable voltage.

Actually, I'm still glad I ordered combo you suggested. It seems I can't use any of the other hub ports with my method (USB->MiniUSB in). It really does seem to be more consistent power than the original cable, or my hacked 5v/3a adapter though. The device is more responsive, less prone to crashing and my usb ethernet adapter is giving me about twice as fast download speed.

                          Good
BTW, when using the usb2ethernet adapter do you have issue of not being able to use an app cos it work only with wifi connection.
Wondering if there is a way to resolve this?
