Hello All.

Just purchased 2 alfawise h96+ pro

What are your tips and recommendations for this unit when I get it.

It has android 7.1 pre configured.

I have already read about uninstalling the malware app with the arrow icon.
Ai there anything else I need to look at doing.

I will be using it with wifi, and mainly to stream tv

Do I need to look at firmware upgrades?

I noticed a few at the top with svc2 and scv3a...

How do I know what unit I have ?

the best is you make a good Picture of the PCB and show it here .

You really wont what you have until you receive it.
And as mentioned good advise look at the PCB/Picture others will help.

Custom firmware will be the way to go.

You will need to brush up on using usb burning tool and have an A: to A: usb cable for burning
Be prepared to pull your hair out when it things go wrong....but normally it will grow back.

But get use to using the Box before you go all Update crazzy...

a backup of the StockRom shall be good too , if something went wrong / what we not want .

where do I get the backup stock from from.
I'm hopping I won't have to play with the firmware. I hope everything works fine.

I just plan to install the pia vpn client and a few streaming apks, you tube and kodi.

also want to try out the 3d on my projector so got a couple of dplink glasses too.

u can make one if possible i dont know how it exactly works with Amilogic , or u can ask the Seller .

U can look for CustomRoms / but Update (only Bug fixes if provided) it is already the newest Android ,

most Boxes and Devices use until now MM .

Could you uninstall the Malware ??? i think you need "Root" for it , is the Box rooted ???

I can uninstall the malware I think. Orange arrow app? If not I can install malware bytes from the app store.

how do I run ota updates so the unit is always up to date?

do you guys recommend apptoide for apks?

can I use this without adding a fan or using a bigger heatsink? Or will it damage the unit from over heating if I don't modify.

Yes plenty apps on Playstore to check for Root
Wait till see what you get before going all over the top
See how it performs etc, a top a laptop cooler is easy cooling if need.

Yeah I was looking at some usb powered cpu coolers on ****. I saw some photos of someone who had mounted it to the bottom and drilled some holes.

Man I hope I picked the right unit.
one of then is for me and the other I bought as a gift so I hope it works.

Yup, understood.
Just need to wait for it to arrive I guess and see what happens.

So far my list of things to do when the unit arrives is.

1. Uninstall Orange arrow app ( malware ) if I can
2. install malware bytes from play store and run scan
4. Check firmware version is the latest stock version ( is there a list somewhere of all the stock version for this unit?)
5. OTA update if needed ( what app runs the ota)
5. check kodi version, uninstall and upgrade to latest 17.x
6. Check to see if I have the dark video issue. I think I saw a fix for it about editing a text file.

Anything else I should be doing when I first get it

Sounds oK
That Malware may have been a false report at the time but yes good practice.
Rest is ok
But if you go custom and you will
Make sure you have the tools to Upgrade and the usb a: to a cable

Less worry more use

And read all about what others to say about it also

What's the best movie player I can get. Vlc or something else ?

you can try MX Player , not bad , many Settings and Codecs .

If , take APKpure it is better .

I will google pureAPK, im guessing its like apptoid?

FTMC instead of Kodi may be good for you
MX Player for sure, VLC also can be good
Just depends on the what your looking at and how it was created some files are not made equal
